These comparisons are excellent and it must take a lot of work to produce. I would be very grateful if you could make a similar video comparing the three sharpness settings. So far, this seems to be ignored in other reviews, except in one that I saw where it was mentioned in a short part of a video- and the loss of detail when sharpness was reduced to 'low' was alarming. And yet many guides to using the X4 recommend setting low sharpness without showing why. I suspect that it is actually not just traditional sharpness which is being manipulated but something more in the realm of AI. From what I saw of that one test, low sharpness throws away the whole point of the 8k 360 capture. What do you think?

DITTO, I just posted a similar comment/request before seeing this post.

Can you tell the difference between 8k and 5.7k ? Should we stick to 5.7k+ or even 5.7k ? What sharpness level would you recommend, medium or high ?

@@ramusgaming2592 In KZitem videos I have seen, the difference between 8K and the rest becomes more obvious in close crops. But this means that 8K gives you more scope for framing the equivalent of a standard lens rather than a wide angle, if you want. Of course there is a tradeoff with file size, and Insta360 recommend 5K for low light. As for sharpness, the more I see medium sharpness videos the more I think that is the best setting. High sharpness doesn't seem to make a dramatic difference and it might make the image look overprocessed. But so many of these settings depend on the circumstances and on individual taste.

Please compare X4 sharpness settings (out of the camera AND via post [Davinci Resolve]), including in 4k 100p. I notice that the noise level varies in the different sharpness settings, and I find that High sharpness (4k 100p) often cleans up better in post than Low sharpness cleans up. This is contrary to what most reviewers have said. I am trying to figure out if I am doing something wrong when using Low sharpness (e.g. in combination with Shutter & ISO???) I have been watching your videos for a long time (years), you always have details that other do not, thank you.

Thanks so much as always for your great detailed videos... You help us so much with your pasión for knowing the tech reasons for the new updates in 360. By the way haven't you noticed that with the change from X3 to the X4 Insta360 has changed the tuning of the colour temperature of the camera going to blueish? Do you think using the GPS Remote from Insta could we control 2 Insta360 cameras (X3 +X4) at the same time to synchronize them with it and use the footages in edition? Thanks and I'll be wai6foe the future videos of the Qoocam (last one looked really interesting after 3 years advancing to a higher standard)

Anyone else notice a "cataract" in their otherwise blue sky under certain settings with the X4? Seriously. When recording in bright daylight with cloudless blue skies, a reasonable percentage of my X4 videos will have a darkening/graying zenith in the blue sky (not yet sure of the common settings factor). It is not terrible, but it is noticeable. I am guessing it is from 'thinner' pixel density (per that part of the sphere) retained in top rows of an equirectangular output. Any thoughts? (not a darkening in blue, but a darkening in grayish).

all looks bad sadly.. Artifacts, noise/grain, color banding, bad focus just outside of center.. The 8k is just upscaled footage. No way someone can convince me that 1/2 inch tiny sensor is pushing real 8k footage.

I don't think you understand the camera. It stiches together two 4k outputs from two 4k sensors. Almost all action cameras have 4k sensors these days. There is nothing special about that. What then happens is that in editing, the user selects a crop from the 8k 360 degree stitched image, and with this camera the crop is the equivalent of a 2.7k image. With the x3 it was only 1080p reframed output. To achieve that, the processor has to do a massive amount of work. The result is remarkable considering the technical hurdles but it will of course not look like the output from a DSLR camera which had a much easier job to do. Also, bear in mind that it is a tool for a job. 360 video can produce results which would be impossible with a standard camera, but if you want standard camera shots, don't use a 360 camera.

So true.. x4 via influencer marketing. No one is talking about that as a basic camera it is not good. A good secondary camera for various pov. Its promotion on yt is such a sham.

But 2 4k 1/2” sensors can. You missed that important part.
