i'm using reaper and no sounds are passing thru Stepic, how do i use this? i'm pretty advanced DAW user for 3 yrs now. I put it before Vital synth on a track and the midi won't pass thru to vital. i already licensed the plugin. closed it, and re-opened it. i even tried it on the input FX spot and same thing. no midi is passing thru to vital synth. it's like stepic is blocking the midi, how do i fix this issue. i emailed you now in support email pls help thanks

@@devicemeister yea i don't think they are understanding me. All i'm doing is putting Stepic before Vital synth on the same track, it should just work right? it's muting my track. you should set up Reaper and test this , Vital Synth is free, I use Scaler 2, another midi controlling plugin with no issues. it's not a Reaper bug. Edit: it was some option we had to turn in in Midi Play, but i didn't know this from watching here or Dash's video. He showed me this. it's really cool . time to have fun with it now. thanks.

@devicemeister

It depends on your DAW or your modular setup. Stepic only generates MIDI notes and CCs. However, there are DAWs like Ableton Live or Bitwig that provide you with tools to convert MIDI to CV. Another option is to have a MIDI to CV interface module in your modular system.

Great tutorial!! Not sure if anyone can help here but I'm using Stepic for Live and whenever I opened Stepic I cannot press stop or play in Ableton. Another thing which is breaking my workflow as well is that the Stepic Device is closing whenever I click somewhere in the ableton session - I would like the possibility to keep it floating like my other plugins. Any tips how to fix those issues or is there any setting that I didn't find? Thanks!
@devicemeister
10 ай бұрын
Re. Transport: If you click inside the Stepic plugin window, you can use the spacebar to toggle the transport just like in other plugin windows. Re. Floating Window: The issue with the Stepic window disappearing behind the Live window when you're working in Live is a limitation of Max for Live, which can't keep hosted plugin windows on top. Stepic's plugin window is a VST3 and differs from other Max for Live devices in this respect. If you are on Windows OS, you can use an Always-On-Top app as a workaround. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to write an email to our support. We are here to help.

I've watched this full tutorial now, start-to-end, and wow, this tool is absolutely amazing. I just wanted to comment on how great the tutorial itself is, though. I find a lot of these types of tutorials can be pretty dry or hard to follow, but this is so well done. The person doing the voice over has a good voice/tone for this, and explains all the features so well. It can be a very intimidating plugin because of how feature-filled and powerful it is, but I think it's more intuitive than most arp/seqs with advanced features. The great tutorial and very consistent, well-designed UI make this plugin the best choice for arpeggiator/sequencer/midi generator for me now, and I feel pretty confident about using this plugin now after having watched these vids. I will be buying it sometime this month, for sure.

Excellent tutorial, great plugin. A few questions though: in the beginning of the tutorial (around 2:08) Stepic is playing a melody. But all the note-sliders are at the bottom!? Also an awesome base line melody is underneath the sequence. Where does it come from? Last point: the Hive 2 synth displays a preset called STP Heaven. I searched for it in the synth, but it has no preset with that name. Can anybody clarify these points please? 😊
@devicemeister
6 ай бұрын
Hi, regarding your questions: 1. Jon has activated the transpose mode in the MIDI-Play settings and did send MIDI note to Stepic to tranpose the sequences. Please watch the 5th episode of the Ultimate Stepic Tutorial to learn more about this feature. 2. The bassline was created by Jon using another Synthesizer and without Stepic. It's not available for download. But you can easily recreate it on your end with almost any soft synth. 3. The Hive 2 preset 'STP Heaven' is available for download in the video description.

Is it possible to have stepic run at half speed or multiples of the speed of your DAW's Tempo? I was hoping that Divider controlled this, but does not appear to work that way. Thank you!
@devicemeister
8 ай бұрын
Hi, you can adjust the tempo of the note sequencer via Note Length. This is essentially Stepic's master clock. Additionally, you can give each of the modulation sequencers their own tempo. The individual sequencer sections (Pitch, Octave, Velocity, etc.) all run at master clock tempo (Note Length).
@levinsonl
8 ай бұрын
@@devicemeister thanks! Since stepic does chords it would be cool to play it at a slower division of the tempo to easily make a long phrase without chaining multiple patterns. Especially because you can make any number of steps you want, it would be really interesting for pads/ambient to have polymetric long chords. Thanks so much for answering me you guys are helpful!

I am a newbie at this, love Stepic, how did you get the bassline to play, and delay the start of Stepic?
@devicemeister
8 ай бұрын
Hi, the bassline and the delay are elements that are not generated by Stepic itself. The bassline is part of a backing track that was not created with Stepic. The delay effect was applied to the track in the DAW. If I have misunderstood your question, feel free to post a timestamp from the spot in the video. Stepic is a sequencer. This means that it doesn't generate sounds by itself, but rather sequences notes that you can then send to a synthesizer or sampler.

It's fascinating how many devices/plugins in 2023 are for people struggling with creativity so much that they just want to click 'randomize' until they find something they like. Clicking boxes on a plugin with a spartan UI is a painful way to get there compared to actually playing around with a DFAM or Edge or SQ-1 or just playing around on a keyboard. You could even get crazy and try the 'mutate' knob on your LaunchKey! Or maybe even that plugin that makes the creepy plant wiggle when it generates sounds. Dios mio, man.
