Well done video. I am a deep prot TF MT and I have been evaluating fury/prot spec. I enjoyed your understanding of your team as I see a lot of fury prot MTs that are garbage and are only fury because it benefits them. Ultimately their guild suffers because they have a low mitigation tank and are not pumping out enough dps to require a fury/prot MT. My guild is in the 700dps range on boss fights and I still have plenty room on threat but it’s catching up and concerned in AQ. I will most likely have to switch but we are not a speed clearing guild.
@djente7220

Really glad you enjoyed the guide! Whether or not its required to go fury prot is overlooked all the time! One thing for you to consider in AQ is the world buff factor. Does your guild run full world buffs at the moment? Its going to be much harder to keep your wbuffs for longer in AQ because it's harder and a bit more lethal. So you might get to stay deep prot if you would prefer that!

Hi great video. I watch it over and over. Each time I understand more and more (Started fresh in Tanking) I have a question about weapons. Im Human and use R14 Swords in dual wield. But ive been thinking that maybe Maladath would be better in main hand (specially with Shield) . The+4 Sword skill combined with +5 Racial feels very tempting to try out. There are little info about R14 weapons in most Gear guides. So it's hard to compare with the regular Pve items. Any way, once again super great video that covered most that i were looking for.

To make things clear: - You can still use a shield - You don't loose any mitigation from the spec itself you get every talent that makes you more defensive. - If you got a good set of 1h its always worth it to go fury prot. But you should know what your doing. - Even for dungeons its not a bad spec, you only loose Concussion Blow and its a bad habit to rely on it anyway because you cant use it in Raids. - For me Tactical Mastery is highly overrated. You can use Thunderclap and Intercept if you just hold on Bloodrage, not big need for it IMO. - You still are in defensive stance, because alot of people think you tank in Berserker, but you don't. Im sick of hearing miss information over and over again. I outhealed healers in PUGs with my Flask set as fury prot and they want me to teach how the game works... sure...

Excellent guide! the best I've seen. What's your thoughts on going over hit cap? does it boost threat due to the OH hitting more often. I'm currently at 8% hit as a human
@djente7220
4 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much, im glad you enjoyed the guide! There is nothing wrong with going over hit cap but personally, I try to avoid it as much as possible! Whenever I am tanking I am getting so much rage because of good gear and constant threat on the boss, my uptime on heroic strike is atleast 90%. This means that my offhands have a seriously low chance to miss because of the way they are classed as a yellow hit when HS is queued. So if you go over 6% hit cap (which is just to increase your white hit chance) its really doing very little because you have heroic strike queued so often. Spend some time thinking about your heroic strike uptime and also look at other pieces of gear you can have. Try trading some of your hit items for crit items or maybe even mitigation items and see how it feels. Swapping from something like satyrs bow to dragon's breath hand cannon is a really nice way to do exactly this!

@@djente7220 - Going over hit cap is defo not a bad thing as it increases your white auto crit chance.. It varies on wep skill but lets say with 300 ws - 50.3% + YourHit% (for your white attacks) so having more hit only increases your chance to crit which would be an overall increase in rage gain..as rage is generated based on dmg done -> more crit = more dmg = more rage = more threat Yellow attacks are not "crit capped" as glancing blows don't affect them.. so technically its impossible to crit cap for yellow attacks
@Ashanthala
4 жыл бұрын
@@MrJaybirds Going over hit cap as a warrior, especially as a dw fury/prot tank, is a very bad idea. You always have plenty of rage, therefore your heroic strike uptime is close to 100%. Assuming 305 ws stay at 6%, if you're heroic striking your off-hand hits can't miss. Crit cap as tank is like 14%ish lower than as dps since you can get parried (so marginal benefit there) and only your offhand hits can take advantage from the additional hit since they are the only hits that can glance. So yeah, don't do it. stay at 6% and equip some actually useful stats, be them threat or mitigation oriented. Don't gimp yourself.

@letzte_maahsname

Do you feel it's superior to arms when leveling with dungeons? And why is that?
@aiMovieBooks
4 жыл бұрын
@@letzte_maahsname good question. I played a lot of warcraft but never a warrior so I had a different approach. I would always focus on the group as a whole, and my contribution to it. I never played arms so I can't say for sure. My favorite thing to do is have a macro for shield on + shield block, and then switch over to back to duel wield. I found this to be the most intuitive way of going fury prot, because you get so much practice leading up to 60. Once you go for it, you'll never have threat problems. And since the healer can focus on you only instead of group, you'll never have healing problems. And since you're doing more damage and soaking more aggro, you'll kill the mobs quicker. The benefits start compounding on themselves, leading to better groups.
@letzte_maahsname
4 жыл бұрын
@@aiMovieBooks Sounds reasonable, thanks. The dungeons are easy anyway, so I guess the time is spent well getting to know fury/prot tanking. But I have to defend arms as the optimal leveling spec somewhat because of the lack of hit rating before 60, which makes you miss about 25% of attacks when dual wielding compared to I think 10%? when using a 2h. What you said about group dynamics is very true though: The more damage you deal, the more threat; DDs get whacked less, DDs are able to deal more damage; heal is more efficient. Everybody wins.
@aiMovieBooks
4 жыл бұрын
@@letzte_maahsname Indeed. Speaking as someone who mains casters with a broad understanding of the game, but a shallow understanding of the warrior (besides fury-prot), I can say that Arms may be equally viable for tanking dungeons. I do not know. What I can say is my experience with levelling from 1-60 in dungeons only was extraordinary, and opened up an entire new aspect of the game that I never knew existed until these theorycrafters arrived.

Noob question, but I notice very few fury prot guides make mention of the def cap. Is this just not relevant for Fury Prot? I imagine as fury prot you actively avoid def cap, otherwise Enrage would be a waste of talent points. Can anyone confirm?
@djente7220
Жыл бұрын
not a noob question at all! The reason why def cap is overlooked a lot of the time is because you can totally get away without it. there are 3 really dangerous mechanics in classic as a tank: Crit - Countered by def cap Crushing Blow - Countered by shield block Thrash - Countered by lowering the damage of each individual attack and not leashing the mob so it doesn't store thrash attacks You can completely avoid a crushing blow by using shield block. if you have shield block active and charges ready to consume then you wont be hit by a crushing blow. Thrash is a mechanic where a boss can hit you multiple times. Certain bosses are really dangerous for thrashes (drakes in BWL instantly coming to mind). Each of those individual hits have a chance to be critical hits or crushes so The best way to overcome this is just going MH and shield and making sure shield block uptime is 100%. Which means none of the hits will be a cruch (could still crit but unlikely to die if 1 of 3 attacks was a crit and you have a high hp with either wbuffs or titans flask active). While crushing blow and thrash are overcome by gameplay, the deffense cap heavily relies on deffensive focused gear. The gear required to reach def cap especially earlier in the classic life cycle will highly limit your threat output potential and limit the DPS of your raid. Best advise is to make sure your HP is high enough to soak crits and use a shield as much as possible on bosses that can thrash to eliminate crushing blows from the attack table!

I understand the reasoning for fast melee weapons in your main hand (more heroic strikes) however I don't necessarily agree that it's the best option. By having a fast 1h in your main hand and a slow 1h in your offhand, that means that you are eating through rage faster (MH is spending rage, OH is generating rage), reducing the effectiveness of your OH damage via having HS QUEUED for a shorter amount of time. Also, faster weapons reduce the benefit of flurry (30% of 2.6 = 0.78 seconds faster attack speed, vs 30% of 1.6 = 0.48 seconds faster). I have yet to see compelling evidence that having a fast MH weapon is the highest TPS
@djente7220
4 жыл бұрын
Good points here matt and I agree with you on some parts, Personally i am never finding myself rage starved during a boss fight. This means having the faster mainhand is allowing me to pump out more heroic strikes regardless of whether or not its chewing through more rage. The only time rage feels like an issue for me personally is at the start of a boss fight if I havent managed to sevure a rage mob and get 100 rage but a mighty rage solves this. If it's a fight where you have to use a stoneshield then your going to be going in fresh with 0 rage and more than likely melee dps that are too horny to wait. A faster weap in the MH will generate more consistent rage in the scenario with 0 heroics queued when your doing your opener. Your flurry maths is right but even with the slow weapon in the offhand that is getting a better percentage of speed reduction, it's still getting that benefit in the offhand. But since its attacking less often it means more flurry charges are being used up on your mainhand which is throwing out heroic strikes which is going to generate a lot more threat. I definitely think a lot of this is situational, the better gear you have and more consumables and buffs your running the better its going to be to run a faster mainhand because your heroic strike uptime is going to be 100% Its probably wise to focus on heroic strike uptime rather than "go for the fastest weapon in the game". if your getting like almost 100% heroic strike uptime with a 2.2 weapon then thats perfect. If you were to drop to a 1.8 speed and it went to around 80% uptime because your gear and consuming etc couldnt keep up with the rage requirement it might be more beneficial to stick with the 2.2 (if they had exactly the same stats and dps etc) thanks for the comment hope you enjoyed the video!

Swapping out shield and dual weild at key points is also another stress on the brain that doesnt exist with deep prot. When playing the broodlord fight properly and i have threat for the whole fight im swapping between shield and dual well over 6 times during that fight. You also have to second guess when the MS is coming so you dont sit with shield out for longer than needed. A heavier reliance on consumables like the stonshield potion is also another thing to think about. Little things like that add up to make it a more complex playstyle. Reading fightclub and simming TPS, it looks like there is no need for that but it certainly helps. How does this compare to deep prot in your experience? EDIT: Fantastic guide btw

@@djente7220 Hey, thanks for voicing in. Our tanks do have threat issues, mainly because our melee are very good at getting worldbuffs and pressing buttons. Since we are horde, we don't get the luxury of Blessing of Salvation :) Even though they are mitigation focussed, they still die from time to time, so the healing situation might lead them away even more from a focus on threat. I hold the opinion that the order of importance to gain more threat is "pushing buttons correctly > threat gear > buffs > fury prot", so the issues might not be solved by changing talents. My train of thought was along the line of getting them in the mindset to prioritize threat over mitigation more, as well as taking away the fear of the unknown. Maybe I just need to tell everyone to "git gud"...
@djente7220

@@darkhenrahl it doesn't sound like a simple fix to make things better, definitely sounds like some threat gear on the tanks would seriously help, fury prot could really clean up threat issues if your tanks are willing and able to learn the playstyle! @@djente7220 IMO World buffs are what allow you to transition from a pure mitigation set to a more threat based set. Getting DMT and ZG buffs are (imo) super simple to get the day/few hours before raid, and give a total of +32% more health. If your DPS are going for world buffs, then the tank NEEDS to be going for WBs as well. The tank should be one of the more hardworking/dedicated people in the raid, and so they need to get WBs. DMT takes 20 mins to fly to Feralas and step into a cleared DMT run. Similarly for ZG, your raid should have 2-4 hearts per week, and all you need to do is coordinate with the people getting the heart quest, and fly to booty bay. A missing consume is the spirit/stam consume from ZG rep turn in.

With deep prot build, you lose aggro.with fury prot you want fast heals. Or you wait to find specific gear (from bwl) with crit etc?

Don't get too much mail gear maybe 2pieces maximum. Once you can get your hit cap and around 24% crit, start thinking about going fury prot. That would be my plan at least. If your friends have very good gear and you don't then you will find it very hard to keep threat no matter what spec you are in until you manage to get your gear up.

Are you considering the blue post confirmed crit suppression in your 25crit set? You basically lose 4.8crit on every boss fight that you can't mitigate. So to get a true 25crit you'd have to have 29.8%. 1crit is lost for each level the enemy has over the player. And up to another 1.8 from non-agility auras is lost as well.

Love the guide! I recently accidentally took Nef Head Neckpiece over the Ring yet nothing can be done about it, is it the end of the world for me because I needed that attack power more than ever as a MT. Another question, I use daggers 24/7 and I’m so confused whether I should use CHT in the MH with Perditions in the OH, or vice versa, let me know if there’s any point considering how fast both of them are. What happens if I get Crul’Shorukh, would I use CHT/Perditions in the MH with Crul in the OH? I’m just a little confused but what I’m gathering is that you have the slow OH to benefit from when you have HS queued so that it doesn’t miss, and with the faster MH you can pump out more HS. I do have Edgemasters to benefit the day I get Crul or Thunderfury. If anyone can help with my questions it would be greatly appreciated, if you wanna check out my character I am a Tauren called Bon on Mograine EU.

Consider waiting until AQ40 get's released and maybe go for the blessed quiraji pugiot instead of the crul thats gonna be sick. Well made guide. Amazing editing. Good for beginners, not so much for advanced players tho. The only thing I have to heavily criticise is your rotation. The one you're suggesting in the guide is completly wrong, and the ones I see you using in the clips shown in the video are even worse (you're not keeping bloodthirst and revenge on cooldown as you said in the video). Never open with Heroic + Sunder. Always open with Bloodthirst. Sunder is literally only 261x1,495 threat. That's a joke. It's not the job of the MT to stack up Sunder. Offtanks and DPS start their rotation with 1x Sunder, MT doesn't.

Hey Akitos glad you liked the guide. Thanks for your kind words and your criticisms. I agree with everything your saying but also disagree as well. Sunder armor is a very low threat ability I couldnt agree more. But there are situations where it is the best ability to press. It's hard to condense all that information into a guide that is digestible, these things are learned over a long time tanking. I could probably make a whole 30 minute video on when I would open with a cheap ability like sunder thats instant and snappy and when I would remove the ability completely from my bars. Hope you enjoyed the video Akitos, thanks for your comment
