Hey everyone! Other than some upcoming engineering discussions, this is the last video from our recent trip to Taiwan. It was a ton of fun talking to all the engineers and designers in the industry. We have some of those videos coming up, and this one features something different - which is a little bit of (translated) discussion with In Win's designers and product managers. I've been thinking about if it'd ever be worth hosting a purely discussion-focused series on a separate channel or something, effectively a podcast but with more effort on the video side (e.g. in company design offices around the world). Let me know what you think. It's normally not good content for the main channel since YT just wouldn't support it well, but could work separately.

I've had to quiet a number of PC/Macs going into recording studios and labs. Putting an acoustic panel on a wall or back of caddy works really well. But. There are issues. The acoustic panels are quite fragile, they get ripped up by cables easily. In home use you'd mangle them pretty quickly when plugging and unplugging stuff. Most of them perish when exposed to hot air blasting continuously and start to produce annoying fine black dust, some of them have a very high carbon content and the dust is somewhat conductive. So longevity isn't the greatest. I don't think these are deal breakers, but that silencer panel would probably need to be encased in some sort of metal cage, for commercial sale to the public, or it would be ab rma nightmare.

@jarivuorinen3878

Two problems with most cases sold are the noise with the glass, and restrictive front panes that kill airflow. More open front doesn't have to mean loud front, there are geometric tricks around this, and of course bigger fans and slower rpm can help. For glass panels personally I just glue foam to the glass itself, to inner wall. It destroys warranty of course but it's a case, I've never had to return case after I've built a setup there, tested it, and even pondered modding the case. Typically returns are about integrated case connectors, fan controllers, stuff that is electronic, but for these good you get replacement part typically. Warranty also sometimes because of shipping damage, but this is clearly noticable after opening the box for the first time. With restrictive front panels I typically just leave a filter mesh in front of the fans, I can pop those restrictive covers off easily. Yeah, my computer looks like crap, but I look at monitors, not at my computer when I use it.

Thermaltake as the sponsor for an In Win tour? That's odd. That foam block at the rear of that silencer case is a pretty novel idea. I could imagine something like that being a product. That H frame variant with the colorful drive bays is neat. A few years ago it'd have been been video editing chassis with the ease of access to drive bays and swapping them. The rapid move to M.2 storage has shifted the desire for such hot swap bays inside that niche (and while U.2 exists, it hasn't taken off for video segment). Still it has a nice look. Using USB-C for the Lynx fan connections permits it to piggyback off of the USB-PD spec to dictate voltage and can provide a single cable for both power and control. That'd provide a means to go from 5V stock USB up to 24V. It just depends on the microcontroller that presumably comes built-in with the fans. The big downside is that each fan would be seen as a USB hub to be able to do daisy chaining.

Those auto open cooling duct though! 😮 Dont know why but I have always wanted that look. Love mechanical looking design work. Also, wish more stuff had the bare aluminum look.

In Win, if you end up reading this... This model: CE685.FH300TB3 I used to have one of these. I would probably still have it, and buying more of them, if it was just a wee bit larger for a bigger PSU capable of going beyond 300w, and able to take a full size card. I realize that makes it a good bit bigger if the card is installed directly to the motherboard. But... you like to tinker and toy around with things, so I figure you could probably find a way to put the GPU under the motherboard somehow, pulling fresh air from below the case via some vents. A lifted motherboard tray would do the trick I figure. Just remove the external drive bays for added clearance for ram, since... well... I like to have them, but most people don't need them anymore. If you do this right, you would be able to take on Silverstone's HPTC models, while keeping them in a somewhat 'slim' form factor. The PSU for instance could be flipped to a different position to allow for a slimmer frame as well. And, with enough clearance for a decent heatsink, some rather powerful builds can be put into it as well. With those drive bays removed, perhaps a liquid loop could be achieved by creative individuals. Just some food for thought. Because something like that, with some included foam for noise absorption, would be a pretty nice unit to have. Especially if a person wants to stack them. I ended up selling mine, because the parts also being sold needed a case they fit into. Which was for the best, because literally nothing I have right now would have fit into it anyways. And I really like those style of cases. So In Win. Please consider the idea of making that case, just a bit thicker.

InWin's D-frame won out when watercooling, but the FT-02 fortress was an exceptional case.

I'd totally pay for a combination of the sound dampening and the actuated cooling exhaust flap case. 100% silent in "office mode", automatically transforms into beast mode when you boot up Crysis.

Silverstone is a real one for their rack mount server cases. Literally the only workstation 5us I could find.

God, I'd love to work at some place that lets you come up with highly experimental designs. I have a few rough PC case concepts that I'd love to see realized but will likely never get a chance to make.

That Infinite case sounds like a dump truck, you need a backup alarm on that rig before you go dumping gravel like that. Someone call OSHA!

I love those D Frame Open Air Chassis , i would like to see full tower version of it to fit 3 or 4 x 360mm radiators maybe some of it with enough space for push pull configuration for liquid cooling
