wow, this is the most concise source on historical/forgotten ultrasound probes ive been able to find. I was looking for a cheap chinease knockoff machine to mess around and train myself and stumbeled upon the world of non-fda approved veterinaty machines use mostly for beeding livestock. the base level machines (most common) are 400-800$ and use what they call a "mechanical probe" which is really big and kind of clunky. seems like its refresh rate is kind of bad and requires a lot of technique to master, especially on a moving target. the better 800-1200$ versions use the newer phased array transducers and seem to be equivilant to early 2000's image quality. so ironically, I bet the most produced ultrasound machines now days have gone back to "analogue." wonder how long till our phones can do stuff like that.... already happening with IR cameras
