The lead singer is named Midge Ure (Scotsman). He was one of the organisers of the Live Aid concert along with Bob Geldof (Irishman) lead singer of The Boomtown Rats. I was 15 in 1985 and this song was epic. This concert was a world changer. It was to raise funds for helping hunger in Africa and other places. It was the first big event of its kind ever and it showed the power that singers and artists had to create change and to support and give in different ways and to highlight special causes that most of us had never noticed. These were the original influencers.

Maybe, but there's a behind the scenes video that surfaced years later that showed some artists annoyed because they weren't being paid for doing it (because it was for charity). I think Sting was one of the main offenders... it's sad to see, but whatever. These Live Aid performances (especially Queen) are some of the most iconic live performances ever done.

Midge Ure and the giants of Synth Pop. Ultravox. he was a genuine style icon. he looks ragged here because he co organised the whole event had probably not properly rested for days. it was a massive gig, that spanned both sides of the Atlantic and was the first event to be viewed by more than a billion people. He also played lead guitar with Thin Lizzy for a bit. multi talented. all round good bloke.

Ultravox should've been bigger in the U.S than they were. Midge Ure went on to have a successful solo career. At nearly 70 he's still touring and still hitting all the high notes. He's amazing! 🥰 (I've seen him twice: Once in 1990 with a full band, and then in 2015 with just his guitar. Just fantastic!)

Ultravox was a UK band. Thiis was a huge song in 1980, when electronic music was really taking off. Live Aid was a major event held in July 1985 to raise money for ppl who were starving in eastern Africa. Yes, Queen performed at this gig too. There was another huge gig happening at the same time in Philadelphia. The satellite beamed images across the Atlantic - the first time that had been attempted. We also had a fund-raising event in Australia called Oz for Africa. The whole thing was huge.

I got to spend 7 days with Midge on the QM2 crossing the Atlantic back in 2018. He was one of the guest speakers. I think my wife and I were the only ones who knew any of his music outside of Live Aid. It didn't hurt that he knows my cousin, but we ended up spending some time talking and sharing a few drinks, great guy. Yes it was the same concert Queen played, Live Aid at the old Wembley Stadium.

Ultravox is one of the few bands that had two fairly successful incarnations. The drummer (Warren Cann), bassist (Chris Cross) and keyboard/violaist (Billie Currie) were constant but initially John Foxx was the singer and the music was more punkish and glam during the mid to late 1970s. This lineup culminated in a great album: Systems of Romance which was the album that inspired Gary Numan to take up keyboards. Alas, that was their last album, they were dropped from their label, and John Foxx and guitarist Robin Simon left the band. Midge Ure, guitarist and singer out of the New Romantic and had played with Currie in a band called Visage which played at a nightclub (Blitz Club) where New Romantic brits partied including Steve Strange (who also appeared in Bowie's Ashes to Ashes video and was also a member of Visage). Vienna was the new Ultravox line up's first album and was a group effort. My two favorite Ultravox albums are Vienna and System of Romance so I like both incarnations. I tilt towards the John Foxx version but I also very much like the Midge Ure version.

The live aid concert here in the UK and the USA was packed out by the top performers of the day and yesteryear. The vast majority of the top performers performed for a worldwide audience on tv and concert goers. It captured approx. 1.9 billion viewers, on TV including the 72,000 people at Wembley Stadium in London and 89,000 people at John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia.
