FUN FACTS: It’s a trap, so don’t fall in -My reviews are factual/truthful EVEN if you DON’T LIKE ME, I can say what I want without hesitation -Gauntlet 1 & 2 have different rate of twist, 22cal confirmed by Umarex - Gauntlet 1 & 2 barrels are reversed, G1 has thin lands, G2 has thick lands -G1 is setup for lighter/shorter projectiles, smaller porting, slower twist rate -G2 is setup for heavier/longer projectiles, bigger porting, faster twist rate -Gauntlet 2 is unfinished, barrel needs reamed farther down, G1 is fine from factory -You should NOT have to pay extra to have the G2 made correctly -You can be more accurate with a break barrel than G2 using lighter pellets -Be careful who you trust because they maybe a shill to the airgun industry

I've spent literally thousands of dollars on Umarex products, as I'm sure a lot of us out here have, and I gotta admit that this is very disappointing. For whatever reason I was never really interested in buying a Gauntlet, but that dont mean that I'm not seriously bothered by this. I've had a great experience with Umarex so far...they've literally sent me brand new guns to replace guns that broke on me and I was very impressed with that because they did it no questions asked. I've been following you for a long time now and developed a lot of trust in what you say, so please keep us posted with any new developments. Thanks James.

I’m up in the air for my first PCP and this sealed it… definitely moved the Air Venturi Avenger to the top of the list. I don’t trust Umarex anymore… they’re just in competition to put out cheap products that perform cheap. With todays technology (especially in air rifles) there is no reason for them to put out a product that isn’t more refined and better than their first. Otherwise why make another unfinished product unless you’re just counting on people buying it for profit margins

However, no way would I pay the G2 price. JSB Match Diabolo Exact King .25 Cal, 25.39 and JSB Match Diabolo Exact King MKII Heavy .25 Cal, 33.95 both “snap in” but not hard to seat. You have stated many truths about the G2 barrel deficiencies. I wish other compensated "reviewers" out there were as open about the weapons they reviews. Amazing that a company like Umarex with huge R&D budgets can overlook a fact like rifling encroaching on proper projectile seating in the breech. This was done by design for some unknown reason...and I'm sure you will find out who or what is behind this. Good work...stay honest.

That's why I suspect a few guns could be purposely made deficient by the (chinese?) mfg, to effect the parent company's reputation while the parent company doesn't realize the problem exists. I own the 1, and am specifically buying the 2 in .30 cal for hunting with slugs and heavier pellets. So if I’m reading the responses and your responses to those, then I think I’m good. I was initially sold on the AEA Pro in .30. I can pick this up, same caliber, nice scope, and even the compressor for a hundred or so bucks over the AEA, and it’s made in country if I believe correctly. I appreciate the review. It struck me funny when Rick Ustler was having the “jam” the slugs in while loading, since my 1 shoots them effortlessly. Anyway, again, thank you for the honesty. Yeah some might get bent, but screwum. I was a contractor and I’ve lost money on a few jobs simply because I found a flaw, even a minute, small flaw that only I’d know about. I’d rather keep my name in tact then have it ruined. Hopefully they’ll get this figured out by the time I buy in or around October.

in pb's you would hand load a cartridge so the bullet engages the rifling to eliminate the bullet engaging at a angle. some manufactures leave way too long a free bore so the bullet can possibly cant before entering the barrel, so when done right the bullet is in perfect alignment with bore as the brass casing is locked into the chamber and bullet engages rifling straight. now you can damage a gun and shooter doing this if you are not careful. with air guns i have no idea what this would do because there is no brass casing keeping the bullet in perfect alignment with bore as with a pb.

I got the gauntlet 30. I do remember it being a little rough with SOME ammo. The FX 44.75 and 50 grainers loaded smooth as butter but 54 grain neilsens would not go in because they engaged the rifling too much. I ended up finding the griffin boattail slugs and it is very easy to chamber and I can get 1/8th inch groups at 50. I noticed the G2 is geared more for slugs not pellets. The increased velocity destabilized the pellets for the 30 and was less accurate with them. Im using 78 grain boattail slugs going 870fps and it has been amazing. Griffins will work in any of the gauntlet G2s and will give good killing power and accuracy.

I would think that as long as the bolt probe is centered in the barrel that having the Pellets engage the rifling would be a positive, but don't understand how the port is in the rifling? That sounds messed up and would need to see pictures. I reload and you get the best accuracy and consistent velocity if the bullets engage the rifling but people don't do this because it is dangerous as you get a pressure spike. All that matters is that your rifle shoots accurate in the end. My .25 G2 shoots sub MOA out to 70yrds and about 1.3 MOA at 100yrds with JSB 33gr jumbos. I have ported it now, put in adj. hammer spring, barrel band, and have an adjustable regulator for 1700 - 2700.... I just ordered a .22 cal to use the tank off that for the new regulator on my .25 and the .25 (2100psi) regulator on the new .22 for heavy slugs. If you want power you can't beat the G2 at its price.

The amount of bullet jump required is subjective to the specific ammo and gun being used. In reloading rifle rounds some guns like 20 thousandths jump, some are more accurate cramed into the rifling. I run 15 thousandths jump myself. Factory ammo will have a huge jump to accommodate any gun but suffers in accuracy because of it.

Good call Ref. I have a theory concerning this issue. It’s only my theory and it goes as follows: It seems , that most of these “brands” are not actually manufacturers with brick and mortar factories that make things. Some do and properly oversee the outsourced foreign products they sell with their name on them, but generally ,the affordable guns are a compilation of sourced parts from Chinese shops. If the brand company gets in the hands of value extracting money managers that aren’t necessarily gunners or craftsmen, and only desirous of making profits for investors not value to the customers, you have these problems. This, to my mind, is why several different ,competing “ brands” of rifles share the same breeches that allow magazine sharing. The actual Chinese metal shops that make these gun parts are capable of extremely fine work but will alter processes to accommodate customers demands concerning costs. If I’m incorrect in some or all of this theory, it still stands that something isn’t right in management and quality control at the top of these companies that are basically investment consortiums that don’t make anything but money. It’s the same thing in the world of guitar manufacturers concerning budget guitars with old , established brand names. The lion’s share of that work is done by an Asian company named “Samick” that is the largest producer of stringed instruments in the world working with shops from Indonesia to China. They will make a customer anything they want from junk to the highest quality. Anyone with the money to by a thousand “units” from one of these companies that actually manufacture things , can start an airgun company, or a knife company or instrument company whether they know ,or even care, about the product they wish to sell. Maybe it’s time to turn the tables , reverse engineer this stuff and make it here by people that know and love craftsmanship and shooting? Too many “middle men “ are screwing things up.

I'm not experienced enough to know if my .25 cal G2 has the same issue with the barrel, but I've been shooting this gun a lot and loving the accuracy, power and shot count. My impressions are its a little rough around the edges and doesn't feel like the most high end gear, but the performance is great. Hopefully the cocking bolt action breaks in a little better over time.

Took me about 5 months going bCk and forth with umarex customer service, due to barrel having obstructions caused by the set screw landings that lock in the barrel, they drilled into the barrel, sent it in, and they sent it back saying nothing wrong so after i made a big deal about it, and finally they got tired of dealing with me so they sent me a new barrel, after i literally had to take pictures of the issue and show them because they couldnt check themselves.

Thanks, man, that is what airgun enthusiasts need. Facts. I am thinking of buying a .25 or .30 cal PCP. Gauntlet was my first option, but now.... What other options you may suggest at the same price point?

Nice little kernel of knowledge now in 2023. I just bought the gen 1 Gauntlet. It's now using the crap barell. It takes farce like a little hit with you're palm to get it loaded and it's throwing off shots and damaging the pellet before even shooting. I'm so pissed!
@randytrashcan
2 жыл бұрын
Hang on, you're getting sub-MOA out of both guns, but you're saying there are better PCP options out there besides the Gen 2? Are those other options in the same ballpark regarding price? I've been tempted to pick up a Gen 1 as I can't shoot springers to save my life, but spending even $200 on a pellet gun just seems insane to me. Granted, when I was a kid, we bought our Daisy 880s for probably $25. Never had any issues shooting tight groups with them either. Seeing a $500 price tag on a gun just to spend another $200 on a scope and $300 on an air compressor... shit, why not buy a 10/22 and splurge on a decent centerfire at that point.

Interesting ! I was leaning for the gen2 after a popular channel told me it was "better" than the G1 but after seing this I dont think it will happen Sadly the G1 might be unavaible before I can afford it [I might need an avenger but that's higher pressure/not hand pump friendly right? Always something!]

I know we've had words and differences in opinion over time, but one thing I'll say is I feel like I can trust you. I'm so burnt on the paid shills in the airgun (and powder) industry. Honesty goes a long way with me. A lot of these shills must have no conscience. I don't know how some of them sleep at night. I'm not a Guanlet fan and will likely never own one, but it seems to me the smart money is on just upgrading the bottle on the G1 for the added shot count and call it a day. I think Umarex got it wrong on the G2. In more ways than one. Hopefully they learn from that moving forward.
@STKO2011

Thanks I appreciate that, I know exactly what you mean especially when you think one of these shills is your friend but come to find out they are in on this G2 problem and charging $715 package to fix this barrel issue, the only one who is contracted by UX...I made it perfectly clear to him on Facebook that he's on my radar, Ray even knows now and liked what I did with this video, it was shown on the Umarex Gauntlet Facebook page before I made it public KZitem....yeah I take flack for the oring delete kits but you know what it's worth it because I reinvest money into the channels and can say what I want without breaking a contract or sponsors...its not easy making ad revenue as hunting/gun channel when other genres make higher percentage per views and as of now ammo and guns are getting more expensive due to inflation

You don't know what your doing . The 22 cal gauntlet 2 will shoot a 14 or 15 grain pellet at about 1000 fps , that is way too fast for a pellet as it will become unstable . You need too use a heavier pellet too slow it down to the 830-880 fps range which is the sweet spot for a pellet . When using a heavier pellet i think you'll find the accuracy is great .
