In the middle of August we arrived in the region of Umbria and instantly fell in love. Known as the green heart of Italy, and "Poor Man's Tuscany" by the locals, it offers exceptional views, wonderful food and welcoming people. We could not have ended up staying with a better hostess. She showed us around the area and took us to events with locals and expats. Her 20+ years in the area really helped us realize this is a special place.
The town of Panicale has an annual grape festival in early September and is kicked off with a cheese rolling competition. So we made our way over to the medieval village to witness this strange but intriguing competition.
We look forward to exploring more of these lesser known towns and events. Umbria seems to be filled with them!
