The display of control this man had through this ordeal displays 2 great aspects. 1, the discipline to control someone in a heightend adrenalin state, and to reposition someone to prevent being injured in a real life scenario 2, the discipline and control to not injure or disable someone any more than you need to while being in such a highly adrenaline state. It says a lot when someone has their opponent dominated but has the humanity to not inflict unnecessary damage/pain. I imagine that martial arts generally promotes this kind of mature mindset, but you still see plenty of cowboys who take an inch of power and will try to leverage it as far as they can go (see also : idiots who don't stop when their partner taps out, LEOs escalating things due to legal immunity, backup and a gun, or people taking swings after the bell and pretending they didn't hear it, etc). Perfect example of how the better trained you are, the more comfortable being in control you are, the less force you need to use to be safe. A weaker person would be forced to break his arms in order to stay safe, but this guy was able to keep everything minimal.
@usurperx7111

If the criminal had a knife at that second he turned around, a VERY different outcome would've happend. So a trained proffesional would tell you that, this Martial artist guy was for sure a strong and fierce man to face. But stupid as fuck for chasing a guy that is in a fight or flight mode. Now luckily, the criminal was unnarmed but, he could've had a sharp weapon or even a gun. And the sad truth is, that there are many heroes who dies to these kind of mistakes. A fleeing criminal is always a potential murderer.
@MintRobin
2 жыл бұрын
@@usurperx7111 I guess you missed the part where he had distance on the guy, who was cornered and said that he "didn't know if he had a knife or a gun" but at that moment was about to find out whether to continue or not. And Regardless that's against my point, it still clearly evidences my statement. A weaker person would've had to break his arms and that's the only real takeaway I wanted to highlight, regardless of how they got into that situation. And I do totally agree it's best not to even try in that scenario, but since they got into a hand to hand situation...
@joostdriesens3984

I'm almost jealous at this guy for subdueing the criminal with such minimal force! Great skills! I'm a karateka and for a serious defense some punches and kicking will probably always involved. It is great if that can be avoided. On the weapons risk issue I have to say this. A knife attack can be extremely dangerous no matter the skill level of the defender and the best defense is not being there. 😅 On the other hand I have encountered some situations where it was worthwhile to approach an armed agressor. In those cases I had three layers of defense: 1. talking 2. running 3. martial arts I subdued a crazy person once who attacked a woman. I suspected he was armed, and he was, but he did not draw the knife. I had a couple of minutes to talk to him to assess the threat level and weigh my options and wait for police. At one point he ran, and I a̶t̶t̶a̶c̶k̶ed defended him from behind 😆 My favorite case was 'hammer-swinging-guy'. An elderly gentlemen who was fighting with a woman over a hammer. I went to talk to them and deescalated the situation a bit. The guy did intend to bash someones brain in, but not the woman, but someone who was not there. 😅 It is greatly disturbing to a murderous frenzy to have someone come over and say 'hi guys, how are you doing? Is everything ok? I noticed you are swinging a hammer.."

He wouldnt even really have needed to break the arm. If you go triangle armbar you can turn that into an armbar sweep with the underhook on the leg pretty easy and from the top armbar position with knees bent and both heels tight to the far side of their head you can pin very easily. If he tries to bite your ankle then you just break the arm. Armbar can be used as a pin as much as a submission (although in US collegiate wrestling its explicitly banned as a pin due to pressure you put on the elbow)

An axiom when facing any noncooperative opponent is "by time you think about it the opportunity has past". For the most part and almost regardless of the system we have to train ourselves so that we are moving before we consciously register whatever opportunity. Two of the main purposes in training for years like he has is to perfect the techniques and to reach an overall level of unconscious competence in the system. I would scream to the top of my lungs for every pedestrian to come and help me out while he's standing there helplessly unable to get away I'm using the same phone he snatched. Adam_NPB yeah I understood what you meant haha it happens all the time in BJJ class. When I have someone in a triangle and feel them start to stand it strains my legs so I like instinctively wrap the leg and roll them into their back. From there you can hit em with a nasty armbar too! Check out Holloway vs Poirier 1 😄🤙🏻
