I am a traditionalist. I love feeling warm and cozy. My guest always say how warm and cozy my house makes them feel. I am sticking with my French design. Since that’s my heritage. It makes me feel vibrant and alive. White is beautiful but cold. I live in the cold

I wish I could do a minimalist style. I constantly battle my hoarder tendencies but realize I will never win. This white mix looks so peaceful.

I think minimalism is a style that works best when you're in your 20's and your whole life can fit in the back of your car. Over time, though, there's just more you want to surround yourself with. Hopefully you've collected art, photos of special people in your life, things that you've inherited, things you've bought that remind you of great times, not to mention had a family, and suddenly the idea of minimalism just doesn't make sense. I remember the last time (and the two or three times before that) that minimalism was the in thing, and everyone's homes started to look like anonymous hotel suites. Honestly, not a fan, though I've used both Swiss Coffee and Mountain Peak White (my go-to trim and ceiling color) and enjoyed them. I just can't build a look around either one.

Yes, thank you for articulating how I feel about minimalism. I don’t think we need to be maximalists but somewhere in between. It really comes down to how much visual noise can you handle and how much dusting you want to do 😂

I think as you start to get a little order you do want to take all the beautiful things you have collected and showcase them in a design that is current with the times as much as possible but keeping your sweet Grandma's cherished items and your spouse's special finds as treasures no matter how in or out they are to others. Your home. Your rules. Your home is Your treasure!

It's the opposite for me. I'm in my thirties and I am very minimal. I only keep things that are necessary, and I downsize constantly. Accumulating crap over time is pointless so I'm always getting rid of stuff, and donating things. Also, if I were to just pass away, I don't want to bombard anyone with a bunch of my stuff. The only thing I "hoard" are books. I'm an avid book lover and reader so that's my one "thing". Other than that, if I don't use it within a specific amount of time, I donate it. I suggest you take the same principle to your life or you'll be gifting someone a load of junk when you kick the bucket.

Minimalism for me is donating or throwing out non-essential items I haven't reached for in the last 4 months. I love looking around and not seeing things that did nothing more than clutter my home. That's as minimal I can get. Great video 💜

You know what style I miss the most? Early American or Colonial, and English tavern , tavern pine. Also English cottage. Although cottage core is popular, true English country is rare. I’d love to hear more about all these. ❤

I LOVE Early American furniture from the 60's and 70's. My entire living room is decorated with pieces from my parents. We'll never again have that quality of furniture.

I have a maple cobblers bench and step table from the 50s. My parents began with Ethan Allen maple, then switched over to the dark tavern pine. The style was very popular when it was featured on I Love Lucy. They had such cool and unusual pieces: the drum table, breadbox table, captains chairs, General’s chairs, roll-top desk, hutch and server, etc. Now I’ve moved over to English Country. Lots of lace and floral fabrics. Went with the fox and hound theme…but all my foxes are depicted wearing the hunt clothes, lol! They win, huntsmen lose. I’m having fun with decor now I’m in my 70s and feeling free to do me!

I just painted our home gym “Oyster White” by sherwin Williams. It’s a cream without being yellow or beige. I think it has a slight green undertone, but you can’t tell once it’s up. Very chill without being stark.

I used white chocolate for 2 northfacibg bedrooms because Benjamin Moore suggested it on their site. I like it but it's quite bright. I decided to go with something a bit darker for my main rooms.

Well it’s interesting. It’s nice. I don’t think it’s for me but maybe. I think I like simply white better but I haven’t ever used it. I have used Swiss coffee in my old house and I liked it. But now I’m using Polar Bear & decorators white. And lots of dark Smokey greys, blacks & darker navy’s. I’m not really a minimalist person. I like it but it just could never happen in my family. We could try to do better but we just wouldn’t get to that ever. And that’s ok. I can appreciate the values & still incorporate. I’m rather adverse to yellow, cream, orange, beige, some browns. That said it never ceases to amaze me how well you put things together! It’s really good. I think you are the best at it. Obviously it’s what you do. But thanks for sharing & helping us. Question is there a white paint color that I can use on my house to touch up blend with my existing white exterior that will not reflect the sun light so much? I’ve heard people in France on here talking about a basic white paint that diffuses sunlight so that it is not so jarring like on my deck when I’m outside.

There are as many different levels of minimalism as there are different ways to make chocolate cake. I’m paraphrasing Joshua Becker’s definition of minimalism… Minimalism is about identifying what’s important in our life, and removing the things that are distracting us from them.
