I love the multiple times he asked if it was real leather and even tested it despite how many times the company was like nope we are cruelty-free and vegan lol Wes: I WANT TO BELIEVE, GIVE ME THE LEATHER

I love barefoot shoes and boots, bu i really dislike the hippie dippie messaging of most companies and the lack of leather. Love what jim green is doing with yall.

Was on the hunt for a pair of barefoot work boots a while back and was actually considering a pair of these boots before I saw it was a vegan leather. Went with some Jim Green barefoot African rangers instead

I never liked barefoot shoes until I got a pair of the Jim Green barefoot African Rangers. I need support especially in the bush and the barefoot Rangers with semi-stiff insoles fit that need. Blade HQ has me on their Xmas card list because of all the knives I've bought from them.

Whoever is wearing the shoes in the B roll appears to be doing some strong heel-strike walking for wearing barefoot shoes. More “correct” walking would reduce the need for more “squish” in the shoe.

I have 2 pair of shoes from Ahinsa for warm weather and 2 pair for cold weather. So far they are the only shoes that fit me comfortably. The warm weather are extra wide and have actually vibram soles.

I may be in the minority but most of the barefoot shoes are not even close to wide enough for me, so having options like these are nice. These options in leather would be amazing.

You should try the Belleville Mini-Mil tactical boot. I’m surprised you haven’t yet. It’s like the OG barefoot boot. They collaborated with Vibram as well.

The only good quality "faux leather" is cork leather in my opinion. I suggest you look around online and buy some cork leather boots/shoes for review; it has similar properties to leather and better in a few ways

I never hear anyone mention about how non-breathable the leather replacements are. Talk about a skin weakening nightmare. Unless they perforate them, of course.

I know Weston always says that leather is breathable, but in my experience I have damp and cold feet at the end of the day wearing leather. Recently went back to my Vegetarian Shoes Solovair boots for a week and remembered how amazingly breathable their Vegetan Bucky material is. Not to mention durable. I wore those boots for 5 years every single day and the uppers are nearly perfect, just beautifully worn in. No need to condition, no cracks. Also don’t give me the eco argument - I’ve pulled 100-year-old leather boots out of the ground and they haven’t degraded at all. Most of my current shoes are leather, but those Vegetarian Shoes microfibre uppers are amazing.

I think you would really like it. looks really good, not like a clown shoe, has multiple insoles that it comes with so you can get different comforts. full grain leather upper but Im pretty sure its got a heavy coating which I dont particularly like but its still super nice.

It's good to show others, but it is not eco friendly, especially if they are trying to pass it off with the look of leather 🤷

Have you never seen leather come out of the archaeological record? Leather is not eco friendly no matter which way you look at it, in either manufacture or end-of-life. Sure there are some awful “pleathers” out there, but also some extremely good synthetic microfibres that will outlast leather and never need conditioning. I’m not against leather - I have both - but there are definitely rubbish versions of both that aren’t worth comparison. But Weston will never discover the longevity of the best “Vegan” leathers because he owns a leather company.

@@CHIMPOaGOGO Well they ain’t your standard crappy fabric-backed PU fake leather, that’s for sure. I only know what I have experience of them: I never managed to damage the rough out version by abrasion or any other means before wearing out the soles. Why have I gone back to leather shoes then? Because I’m yet to find a Vegetan Bucky upper that can actually be resoled. On my Vegetarian Shoes brand Solovair boots, I have worn through the midsole completely so that you can see light filter through the plastic outsole. The only damage on the uppers is the coloured coating on the surface cracking slightly at the bend of the toes. They crease beautifully though, like Cordovan. I have Birkenstock sandals from the same company from 2006 and the straps are perfect, if a bit grubby. I can’t vouch for any other vegan leather products, just what the Vegetarian Shoes shop in Brighton, England has on offer. Their material has grain and is consistent all the way through, with no fabric backing needed. It seems to be the same thickness as leather (i.e. sneakers slightly thinner, boots a bit thicker). No smell in my experience either, and very breathable (more than leather). Can be polished or take dubbin for waterproofing. I really wish someone would make heritage boots from this material! I’d probably still want the leather midsole though.

I have 2, the jute loafer style and the winter boot style. There's nothing particularly durable in terms of construction, but they have held up for a few months of use and are still going without any excess wear or failures. Would not buy again though. They are probably the ugliest barefoot shoes I have.

And so much marketing woo. "Better for your health" too. It's not like a bunch of plasticizers and microplastics have been implicated in the last decade as causing serious health issues...and I'm sure when most of these wear out that they're not being recycled. I'm saying this as a big fan of Vibram five fingers, but I wish there was a better, truly eco option that considers the entire lifecycle of the shoe, not just paying lip kservice with marketing.
