Hi Bob, I gotta say THANK YOU! With all the people making content, that is a huge compliment. It is greatly appreciated and I'll try my best to continue to make quality videos for the RC community. I'm a one man operation here and it's a lot of work. But getting comments like yours make it all worthwhile! Please let me know if there are any specific models, techniques, subjects, etc. that you'd like to see covered on this channel. I hope you and yours are safe and healthy during to corona lockdown. Regards, CJ

Awesome, thank you! I know you'll be pleased with your decision. This plane is one of the best planes I've ever seen and/or flown in +40 years in the hobby. You can start easy and grow into the plane. If you read the instruction booklet, you'll find a section that explains how to set up the radio so that the flaps can be used both as flaps and as ailerons... that way when you're ready for acrobatic flying, you'll have the full trailing edge surface as ailerons! Please let me know how your experience goes! CJ

I just ordered a Timber X ... My concern is a few guys at my local club have had issues with their Timber's main gear, complaining it's a known weak spot. Since I have not yet received or assembled the plane, I was wondering if you might have a recommendation of how to strengthen this area , during the build and before I take it out to the field. Also, the field I fly from offers the choice of a very rough asphalt pad with a lot of cracks or an area of longish rough grass. Also I am a somewhat beginner pilot and would appricate any advise you can offer when I maiden it.... Thanks ....

Nice unboxing! Hey have you ever figured out what those two brass bushings were under the back wheel? I myself think they are for the floats but I didn't see anything in the manual for them?

Nope, I never got a resolution for that. I'm glad you're enjoying my videos!

The word is accelerated stall rather than tip stall. This is a stall that occurs at a higher speed and at a higher g -force than a normal 1 G stall.

I don't want to get into an argument, but I don't think I said anything that was incorrect. Fixed leading edge wing slats are used to prevent stalls in general, including tip stalls. Their purpose is to increase lift during low speed operations and allow the wing to operate at a higher angle of attack. A higher coefficient of lift is produced as a result of the angle of attack and speed. Slats allow the aircraft can fly at slower speeds, or take off and land in shorter distances. Merriam-Webster defines Tip Stall as "a stalling of the wing tip of an airplane before the remainder of the wing is stalled that frequently results in the loss of lateral control". I recommend installing the slats on this plane since most people who buy this type of plane (STOL) engage in low speed maneuvers, aerobatics, and short take offs and landings. Tip stalls are a common occurrence when attempting to fly as slow as possible. Pilots frequently encounter tip stalls at low altitudes and at low speed which usually results in a crash. The type of stall you described could also be prevented, or the possibility of it's occurrence reduced by installing the wing slats. I hope you're enjoying the videos. Thank you for watching! when i unboxed today, i noticed the hinges for the flaps/aileron are not pinned nor did i see the anchor like you show. Any reason why they would have regressed in this design from what i'm seeing on your video? very odd. purchased on amazon as a gift for xmas (Dec. 2020)

That's to bad... I wasn't aware that things had changed. Are the hinges still there at least? If so, you could drill holes using a small bit like 1-1.5mm and inset toothpicks with a bit of foam safe CA, then trim the toothpicks flush to the surface with a diagonal cutter. As to why, I'd put my money on money... cost of assembly. You've got a truly great plane, don't let this minor issue sour your experience. Happy holidays and happy flying! CJ

@@MyRCChannel-CJScott thanks & gotcha, will consider that toothpick trick. perhaps amazon was sitting on some old stock too and I got stuck with one of those, and the newer units have what yours have. btw, there's a bead of some type of glue along the entire seam , and the hinges might be ca-glue hinges or whatever they're called...they don't feel like hard enough plastic but they could be. thanks again !!!

Would a six-channel transmitter be able to give me flaperons and regular flaps as well? Or do I need more channels?
@MyRCChannel-CJScott
3 жыл бұрын
Ok, let's count them off, elevator, rudder, throttle... that's 3 down. To make the flaps work as flaperons, you'll need to dedicate one channel for each flap... that makes 5 and split one for the ailerons makes 6. So, in theory Yes, 6 should do, but I usually prefer to have a seperate channel for each aileron. That's because I do a lot of glider flying and I like to be able to have the ability to setup the ailerons and flaps for reflex and camber. I'd recommend an 8 channel radio if you've got one. If you're buying a new radio, definitely get 8ch or more so you've got the expandability for other projects depending on your goals and aspirations for the hobby. If you are shopping for a transmitter, have a look at the RadioMaster TX16S... if you do get one, get the model with the Hall sensors. This transmitter can bind to almost any receiver including all the big name brands. It runs on the open source OS "OpenTX". It comes with a touch screen display in advance of the upcoming version of the software that will support touch. It's also expandable with MicroTX modules and it runs on 2 x 4.2v Lithium Ion batteries, or a 2s lipo pack. I went with a pair of 4.2v bats in the included tray. I got my batteries off Amazon with an included charger. At about $170-$200, it's a steel! Since it can bind to almost any receiver, you can take advantage of low cost receiver and not be tied to a single brand. When you can get receivers for under $15-$20, it's easy to get one for each plane you build. It's got a large memory and it's expandable via an SD card slot. I just got mine a month or so ago but haven't done any flying with it yet due to being in the winter latitudes. But, there are lots of KZitem videos that will give you a rundown on it.
