I live in NY and I like the schools, sites to see, and beaches. What I don't like is the politicians like Cuomo and de Blasio. Cuomo only cares about building new subway stations instead of fixing the current subway infrastructure. A good example of this is Chambers Street on the J and Z. That station is in dire need for maintenance. When a subway system in the most isolated country in the world (North Korea) has a more beautiful and maintained metro system than a subway system of a world power, there is something that needs to be done

I used to live in NY and I lived in the Poughkeepsie area. Poughkeepsie is often considered the upper boundary of the metro area because that's where the furthest train station is to catch a train that'll take you all the way down to Grand Central in NYC without having to change trains. Also the "local" news from Fox, NBC, etc., are all about life in the city. When you go north out of that area towards Kingston or Albany, that's when you start getting separated from NYC. Good overview though. This is something I'd like to show my nephew sometime and show him a little about where his mother grew up. I like your channel! Very informative!
@SeemsLogical

I live on Long Island, in Suffolk County. I'll elaborate on some of the generalizations in the video: On average, Nassau County is richer than Suffolk County. It's closer to NYC and has a shorter commute. Anyone who works in the city (which offers higher paying jobs) would prefer to live closer to the city for the shorter commute. They already work 70 hours a week so they're willing to pay more to have a shorter commute to work each day. On average the North Shore neighborhoods are more affluent than the South Shore neighborhoods. There are exceptions to this rule, but for the most part it holds true. The South shore is flatter and is where all the beaches are. There are some ports, but it's mostly beachfront. The North Shore is rockier and has deeper waters, making it ideal for boating. Fishing and crabbing can be done on both the north and south shore. The Hamptons are where the super wealthy prefer to vacation. But not everyone who lives in the Hamptons are ultra rich. There are still some "normal" people living in the Hamptons. The east end of the Island are where some of our farms are located. In our history much of Long Island started out as farmland. Suburban development bought out/forced out a bunch of those farmers but some still live here. They grow typical crops like corn, potatoes, sweet potatoes and tomatoes. But the cash crop are grapes. Grapes make wine, wine is expensive to make and the Hamptons are nearby and willing to buy expensive things. It makes sense. Some of the wealthier neighborhoods of Suffolk county include Dix Hills, Port Jefferson, Brightwaters and Riverhead. The roughest neighborhoods of Suffolk county are Wyndanch, Central Islip and Brentwood. Some of Nassau county's wealthiest neighborhoods include Manhasset, East Norwich, Muttontown and Cold Spring Harbor. The roughest towns are Freeport, Baldwin and Huntington Station. Jones Beach and Robert Moses Beach are two of the more popular beaches on the South Shore for normal residents. Jones Beach is frequently referenced by Adam Sandler in his movies. Long Island traffic is often mocked and satired by those who live here. It can take us an hour to travel 8 miles during our rush hour. For this reason most people elect to take the train (Long Isand RailRoad) to and from the city. And the Babylon line is the line that experiences the most delays, as reported by the local news. As bad as our traffic is, it is nothing compared to NYC. Once you hit Queens you will notice a major difference in the driving conditions. Long Island is a very diverse place. We have lots of nationalities represented here and have considerably high concentrations of Italians, Irish, German, Polish, Puerto Rican, Jamaican, Dominican, Mexican, Venezuealan, Korean, Jewish, Indian and Russian immigrants living here. Pretty much the only culture that isn't represented significantly here are Native Americans... which is ironic. Because of all the diverse cultures living here we are spoiled with lots of great restaurants to choose from. There are the usual Chinese, Italian and Mexican restaurants but also Portugese, Indian, Dominican, Korean and much more exotic places to choose from. New York has 2 teams representing them in nearly every sport. There's a lot of sports rivalries in full show here. Sports bars are in nearly every town and they showcase memorabilia from both teams in each sport. The average Long Islander is usually a Mets, Jets, Islanders & Knicks fan. The NYC residents are Yankees, Giants, Rangers and Nets fans. Usually, but not always. It varies per person, but we are very vocal of our sports teams nonetheless. Did I leave anything out fellow Long Islanders?

@@t-squared6406 Buffalo is on the border of Canada and is roughly an 8 hour drive away. Trenton, Hartford, Philadelphia, Boston, Baltimore and Pittsburgh are all a shorter drive from where I live than Buffalo. I've only ever been to Buffalo once. We visited the university there (its very large and has its own rail system) and I also ate at the Anchor Bar, the spot where Buffalo wings were invented. It was alright. We were gone in 4 hours. Northern NY and upstate (*true* upstate) NY are two entirely different worlds. Coming from New England, NY is so big there are actually cities that are hours apart that most people in places like MA or VT don't even know exist (like Binghamton). I got to work a lot in upstate NY and grew to really love the place. There are whole different regions (not like on the New England states' maps): the Finger Lakes Region, the Adirondacks, the Hudson Valley, the Catskills, the Southern Tier Region, the Capitol Region, and whatever that really flat farm area is between the Adirondacks and Canada. Beautiful state as long as you stay *far* away from the southernmost part, aka the Metropolis.
@NorthernForester

The area between the Adirondacks and Canada is mostly St.Lawrence County which has the last city north of Syracuse in NY being Ogdensburg right up on the Canadian border. The rest are just towns and villages.

However, I do agree with those who say they don’t like cuomo because from what I’ve seen he seems like an ass. For instance, he renamed the tappen zee bridge to the Mario cuomo bridge. It’s a dick move in my opinion cause he takes this important piece of infrastructure and names it after his father. In my opinion very selfish, but how do you guys feel about not only the bridge and cuomo, but New York in general? Also where does mappy get off prank calling people? Also didn’t he have a son? I grew up in Long Island (north shore, wealthy, Jewish) and I would say people are half conservative and half liberal. I know a lot of my friends who are Jewish and rich, who’s parents are rich and liberal (no where near sjw level). I switch between Republican and Democrat depending on what term it is and who the presidential candidate is. If you look at recent studies, a higher percentage of Phd’s and those with master’s degrees are liberal rather than conservative which is a switch from the 80’s and 90’s. I thought that was interesting because one would think liberals are young, dumb college kids or poor inner city dwellers; however, that isn’t true anymore.

NYC is awesome, great place to live. The city is a show, but you have to remember to pace yourself here. Upstate is gorgeous. We have great state Parks for hiking and back to nature. Upstate is reall underrated. Most of Long Island is yucky suburbs until you get to eastern Suffolk County. Staten island sucks.

But it had everything for a kid, skiing snowmobiles boating all season fun. We had a huge house too right on route 8. Loved it.
