MiniArt's T-44M is the second kit of T-44 subject that Ukrainian company is releasing in 2016. This is basically the same vehicle, with few modifications which take it further and make it closer to T-54 than to its base - T-34. Those are the wheels, fenders and fuel tanks.
The kit is very nicely executed, with fuel lines, separate track links and abundant interior, including absolutely gorgeous engine and active suspension. It is not suitable for newbies, but for experienced modelers it is a gem!
The plastic is very nice and flexible, the instructions clear and easily readable.
There are several camouflages, mostly single tone green ones, and one winter-washed scheme. They are done in a collaboration with MIG/AMMO and the paints suggested for the kit are MIG's. That guarantees perfect match of the colors and eases the job even more.
T-44 was a Soviet Medium Tank developed during 1944. It never saw action in WWII, and was somewhat hidden from public. The T-34 successor was incorporating many new features, which later saw application in T-54. T-44 remained hidden from public, although it served well deep into the 70s. T-54/55, with its new shape and features gained huge popularity, but all that is because of the existence of T-44 and T-44M, the two milestones of the tank development in the USSR.
The T-44M was a modification with new gearbox, new fuel drums and new wheels. Although almost new tank, it remained - again - somehow unpopular, and at a later stage the T-44M designation went to T-54. T-44 was officially never used in action, although some sources claim that it was used against anti-communist uprisings in Czechoslovakia and Hungary.
Highly recommended kit!
