Derik, great video. I recently purchased the NTG, and same as you, my first was the original VMP. I had an initial issue with the mic seeming very low, could bearly monitor the output, had to push the gain and thought maybe my mic needed a firmware update, none of the videos I saw showed that process, your quick start explanation has been the best of all the NTG videos I have seen (almost 20 to date). It is even better than RODE's own. Glad, I found your channel, new sub!

This plus the Lavalier Go has been my go to set up for whatever I need this last month. Rode really knocked it out of the park and glad competition made them step up their products to be affordable for the prosumer market.

Hi Derik, great vid. I also got Videomic NTG, one question since I got the WS11 deadcat as well. Do you put in on the windscreen that comes with the mic or do your remove that first and then put on the WS11 deadcat?

I haven’t actually received the WS11 yet. It has been backordered until early April on BH.

Great video. Iam doing the same video on my channel to. it is Russian speaking though. I have a question for you, we got the same setup. What is your setting audio lever settings on your Rode go and transmitter so you dont clip/ and what your setting on a7iii for NRG videomic.

I keep the camera’s internal preamp set at 1, the Rode wireless Go usually set at the middle setting (forgot the dB rating) and I adjust the NTG so that it doesn’t clip while I’m talking loud. (usually around 8 on the dial when plugged directly into the camera). Hope that helps!

Thanks for the review. How do you use this mic directly with a PC? Just plugin to usb and record?
@DBTRVL

Yep. The usb c charging cable doubles as a way to connect it to your PC. Once connected I just go to the audio settings and set it as the default.

I'm a little confused by strange sounds of NTG on 14:40 and 15:15 what is this? Wind or mic feels bad in fast moves
@DBTRVL

I think it was wind noise, but I just received the proper dead cat windscreen so I’ll be testing that. I get back to you on the results.

Derik Broshar - Broshar's Adventures thanks, I will wait for your answer. Also I wanted to ask how this thing really works with Wireless Go or with recorders. It’s TRRS as far as I know, does it require special adapter to plug to TRS inputs? And my third question:) Does radio connection make signal worse than by cable? Or there are no difference on proper distance?

Dear I am confused between Rode wireless Go vs Rode NTG. Btw love your video 😍

They have quite different sounds. I prefer the NTG, personally, but the Go is best if you are moving around a lot. I have both, so I can use the Go as a great little transmitter for the NTG

You'll have better sound from shotgun mics if you adjust the placement to avoid it picking up anything behind you.

Your right, additionally I believe you can use the ntg as a shotgun mic with the wireless go. Just add it to a boom pole attach the go to the ntg and the go receiver to your camera. then you have the freedom to move instead of being attached to a long cable. Its 200 dollars more vs 20 dollar cable but heck your free.

The internal battery sucks. When the battery goes bad you'er done. Why not make the battery removable for replacement ?

I never had problems with the battery, but I use it as a usb mic for voiceovers so it can charge off of my computer frequently. However, the mic input jack now only registers right side audio when plugged into a camera so I’ve switched to the Sennheiser MKE400 now for my on camera mic.
