Thank you for the great review. I appreciate your thoroughness on a bible's readability. Too many reviewers just skip over this. If the font is too small or too light in contrast, then the whole object of purchasing a bible is wasted. It must be readable. Thanks again for your review. A job well done.

I agree with the 'pros' you outline about this bible. For me, I am glad they didn't include a concordance or cross references. I can find those on my phone app, so I don't need them in a bible. This is an excellent 'reader' bible with few distractions. I really am very impressed with this bible, far more than I anticipated when I ordered it. Very readable text, and great size. Zondervan really nailed it with this edition.

I think so, too. I think Zondervan nailed it with this edition. Not having a concordance is not a big issue for me since it's not my main translation and I'll mostly be using it as a reader.

I agree that this NRSV edition from Zondervan is excellent, and that addition of a second color would be great, but it would add to the production expense and raise the retail cost. I am still happy with single color because Zondy has offered great value for what is between (and including) the covers.

Oh, that's true. The addition of a color would bring the price up. I didn't think of that factor. But isn't this edition awesome?!

@@joesbibles5636 Yes and there is a decent margin on the side for some notes as well, like the NASB Side-Column Reference etc.

Excellent review of a very good Bible. I am looking for a "bare bones" Bible - for reading / mediation only as often I get side tracked when getting stuck into one my Study bibles with all the notes / maps etc. So maybe this could be a good choice. And I am also growing in my appreciation for the Apocrypha. Thank you for uploading this -) ++

Study Bibles can be pretty dangerous in the way you just described. I want to get reading the Apocrypha too. What's your primary translation?

@@joesbibles5636 Oxford annotated NSRV - Orthodox Study Bible (follows the NKJV but with Apocrypha included) - my overall primary I think is the NKJV followed by the NSRV. The Oxford annotated is an excellent Bible with superb maps but as you say it can dangerous in some ways if you get bogged down by other peoples views and insights. I'm thinking of going more to a "Bible only" situation with commentaries separate if I need them. But still enjoy reading through some of my bigger Study bibles.

Hi Joe, I'm in Australia and have joined a lovely church who use this bible version, so I bought this one yestrday from Evangelical Bible because it's a beautiful looking bible with an excellent bold font in black letter. I have the LSB, KJV and NKJV bibles but never read from this version before. I have had 7 operations in one eye 3 years ago therefore have one good eye to read with, so ink to paper contrast is premium for me and this looks wonderful. I like that it's a reader not a reference bible, too, since I already have lots of premium bibles with all those references. For this reason this bible is perfect, due to its size and great legibility, making it the ideal carry to church where one doesn't need references anyway. Every bible is a gift from God ,and I thank Him for this new one which is on the way! Thank you for your excellent review, particulalry for the visuals because till now I have not liked the ribbon colour way in other reviews but can see here they're not bad at all. God bless you, brother.....sis Jae

So I am suspect. I am unsure why publishers are not releasing better NRSVs. Take this one for instance. Its purple. Why not black option? That KJV you showed is awesome, why not one like that? The Zondervan thinline NRSV: terrible comfort font. Cambridge NRSV. Heavy! Schyler comes out with RSV before NRSV, aside from the fact that very few people since 1985 uses the RSV? I always get a sense companies are trying to sabotage the translation.

Yeah, I hear ya. I do wish it came in a black option. There is a Premier Collection side column reference edition in black though. That's pretty nice, I heard. I do like the Comfort Print font of the NRSV, though. I prefer it over their NIV one. As for the Schuyler and why they're not publishing yet, I wonder if it's because they're waiting for the updated version of the NRSV?

Joe, I just read on the Schuyler Bibles page that they are waiting for the Update Version of the NRSV before they do a Quentel.
