Last year I had picked up a BX57 from Goodwill for about 12 dollars and it worked wonderfully in my TV setup. Sadly a lot of the major streaming platforms are now unsupported in the player but they are of course still around on smart TVs and streaming boxes, so that wasn't an issue. I'm not too sure which device is doing upscaling, whether it be the player or my Sony X80J, but DVD content looks amazing when I play it on the BX57.

@KolerikRocks At the time of purchase, only Samsung and Sony offers built in app feature which allows me to watch netflix and Hulu plus on it. It's an important feature for me. Not a statement of product quality.

Does this model up convert regular DVD's? Right now I have a marantz DVD player which is one of the best out there for making regular DVD's look good. I would hate to get this and then have to deal with poorer looking quality for the non blue ray disks.

I have the first edition Sony Blu-Ray player that we got when Blu-Ray first came out for like $300. It takes 2 minutes to boot up and is sometimes fuzzy and it doesn't have internet capabilities. It kinda sucks now.

I have this Sony BDP-BX57 3-D Blu-Ray player, but I can't get the 3D to work and I am using a brand new LG 55LX6500 LCD 3-D television. The error message on the TV screen says to check that the TV and Blue ray player are 3D compatible and that the HDMI is connected. I know the HDMI is connected because that is how I am able to see the Bu-Ray menu on my TV, Maybe the HDMI cable is not 3D capable? I enabled the 3-D features on both the Blu-Ray and LCD TV. I'm going to get another cable (HDMI 1.4)

@wahdaheck Didn't test that before i return the thing. It's too big to sit on top of my tv setup. I have gigabit ethernet wired to it and set up the netflix account before i decided it was too big.

@royce904 Brand of consumer electronics matters less and less now. Just buy the ones that has the feature you want at the lowest price you want. Sony and Samsung do provide the latest features in their products. At the end of the day, all of them are rolled out of the same factory in China anyways.
