I have the same truck. I bought it right after you guys started project Tundra and I only got as far as the Kings and the Auburn pro diff. Never could spring for the supercharger or the newer fancier suspension. Love that after all these years you guys are still improving on it. I really hope you guys decide to do a new tundra with the TwinTurbo V6 and go crazy with it. I’m thinking of doing the same super white with the bronze TE 37‘s to keep the theme going.

Man we had a close look at the new Turbo engine and it is complicated and looks to be a chore to mod. Lots of things that can be a maintenance headache down the road. Lots of hard to reach hoses and stuff to leak after 10 years thats looks to be pull the motor. Also stuff like super restrictive exhaust manifolds cast into the heads.

@@motoiq dammit! My exact fears realized. Maybe they’ll pull a u turn like they did with the mk5 Supra and produce a version with the manifold not cast into the head.

Hey there! Is there any way that you could list the components used for this episode? I got the ICON 3.0 shocks but I looked for who made the cambered control arm and didn't see them in the description or transcript. I really appreciate it as I'm wanting to build an SR5 into a very capable off road truck. I'm not looking to run the Baja 1000 or anything but when I get into some gnarly stuff here in TN, I don't want anything to break 50 miles from the nearest dirt road. Been there, done that, not fun. Didn't get a t shirt. Anyway, looking forward to your reply. Thank you!

Doesn't this make the "next weakest item" in the chain something very hard to replace or repair, ie the steering rack or frame? Do you think any of these OEM weaknesses were intentional?

It sure does! The OEM weakness is that the truck was not designed to go 80 mph across the desert.

To bad you guys are running the big brake kit. If you were running 35's on some 17's or 18's having more sidewall would help with some additional bump absorption. Love your videos BTW! Now take it out and hit some whoops and make a video!

Yes it's a trade off, good brakes for stopping while towing or good sidewall for off road.

@@motoiq my experience with most aftermarket companies is simply the parts they use for the extreme abuse and heat encountered in the whoops like San Felipe. The seals in the King and Fox’s mostly with their race internals work well. I can’t speak for King from a service side, but as a sponsored racer for many years Brett was always great to work with. Great videos🤙

you mean chassis flex or the rear of the truck bouncing up?
@Jetbill007

@@motoiq hey Mike, both? A disconnect feeling even over railroad tracks. There’s like a secondary resonate vibration after the bump. Then there’s a soft but “bumpiness” feeling in the back indicative of too much gas pressure in the shock. Going to just try to slap on some 5160’s in the rear as it’s easy enough. I’ll let ya know what I find out but I’m feeling two separate issues. I’d like to get this thing handling like my spyder, but I know that’s impossible. Nice to see a coil spring and a rear bar stick on a tundra but I’m afraid they let this one go “half baked” a bit.

You want to box the frame but are unwilling to look at suspension that will greatly reduce the stress on the entire vehicle including the frame. Instead of boxing the frame you need to drive slower off road because a lack of decent suspension is overstressing things beyond the frame.
@KurNorock
2 жыл бұрын
@@motoiq That's not what I said. I didn't say I was unwilling to look at suspension. I said I can't afford as much suspension as you. And I can weld and enough plate steel to box the frame isn't that expensive. Also, the "bed bounce" thing isn't offroad. It is on the highway. Specifically on concrete highways at speed. And it is a condition that afflicts people with brand new Tundras, old Tundras, new shocks, old shocks, and everything in between. Search for it on any Tundra forum. You'll find plenty about it. Yet nobody seems to have a good solution. The suspension I do have is in good shape. And the ride is comfortable and smooth most of the time. But when I get on the highway to go to work, the concrete sections of the highway cause the bed to bounce which in turn causes a very rough and shaky ride.
