Yea. While I disagree (I’ve seen a lot of differing opinions on the game), it’s clear people aren’t cool with the thumbnail. I thought cherry picking scores were fine so long as they weren’t fake scores. Since those scores are from critics and not users, I figured it would be ok. Again, I was wrong though. Trying to draft up a new thumbnail and title now. Genuine mistake. Apologies, fellas, I’ll do my best to not goof it up next time.

What I loved about Rafe as a villain was that he was the complete polar opposite to Nate himself. Where Nate’s had to fight for everything he’s ever had in life, Rafe didn’t need to because of his family’s wealth. Rafe believed that he’d never really achieved anything in his life and that finding Avery’s treasure was the solution, which eventually led to his descent into madness (trying to kill Nate and rambling about Nate’s previous adventures) and then to his death.

It's not. Uncharted 4 is / was overwhelmingly adored by criticas and fans, and sold very well. It's only "divisive" to the small, vocal minority of Naughty Dog fans who don't like Uncharted 4 was a more mature departure from the original Uncharted trilogies' more Pulpy Action-Adventure roots, and that Nate got his ass handed to him by Nadine. Uncoincidentally, I'd wager the Venn Diagram of fans who found Uncharted 4 divisive are the same knuckledragger man-babies who shit on TLOU2.

My biggest criticism is that Nate and especially Sully were not more suspicious of Sam’s story, they could’ve simply google Alcazar and saw he’s dead.
@ThatBoyAqua
2 жыл бұрын
Yea I think that applies especially to Sully. At least for Nate you could argue that he didn’t really care if the story was real because he just wanted another adventure with his brother, so he neglected fact checking. Maybe Sully had other motivations that made him more trusting, but the game doesn’t mention it (I don’t think).
@redturn133

Sully was definitely suspicious of Sam especially after the auction heist but he lets Sam slide because Sully is just happy to be back in the game same with how Nate is happy to be back trying experience the thrill of adventure/finding treasure once more (it was an excuse), so you could say that they were both blinded by treasure and fortune and Nate specifically was also blinded by guilt from not being able to help his brother during the time he was locked away.

It would have been cool to see chloe figure out she doesn't have to out perform everyone around her to be seen as a worthy equal or gifted archaeologist, and it would have been really nice to see the other one realise not everything needs to be a fight. Honestly, I think this game was the greatest in the entire series. It isn't perfect, but it's good. I love playing the game, and each replay of the game felt special, no matter how many times I'd play it. And I love Nate's slowly changing addiction to treasure. He has an obsession with treasure at first, but when Elena leaves him, it's a bit shifted. He still has the obsession, but he feels ashamed of driving his wife away. But once the truth is revealed about Sam and his Alcazar story, and once Elena comes to save him, he starts caring a bit less about treasure. And when Nate finally gains the guts to apologize, Elena says she forgives him. And that's when Nate's obsession is drained out with care for family. He just wants to get his brother back. Speaking of his brother... Sam's obsession is a bit more major than Nate's, and that's what I like about him. Sure, his nose may be bleeding, he might have a bullet wound, but that doesn't stop him. He will put his life on the line, JUST so he could get an inch closer to fortune. And when the gang is back together, he still wants to go in the mountain, but everyone, even Nate, argues against him. But that doesn't change anything. Sam decieves them, and tries to go for the treasure himself. Even in Avery's burning ship, he manages to grab a couple gold coins to bring back home. And finally, he changes his mind about leading a normal life. He was very skeptical at first. Once he and Nate get to Libertallia, he even says on the chairs that the normal life isn't for him. But, a gear is finally put in place, and he decides that going for a normal life might not be such a bad idea. Also, I wish they'd bring Donut Drake back.

I actually will debate you that Rafe's story while not the center of attention for the story is more than prevalent enough in every scene he is in and every line of dialogue we hear from him. He has had everything in his life handed to him, it's hinted at by Sully when he says something along the lines of "Running your parents company" and Safe corrects hims stating "My Company" the reason he wants the treasure so badly is because he wants to be remembered by for his own accomplishments which he continually is not remembered or known for. This fear of being remembered as the rich kid who bought everything and had everything given to him is what drives him. It's why he rants at Nate saying "Nathan Drake raced a mad man and his entire army to the steps of shambhala, Nathan Drake found a lost city in the middle of the Rub Al-Kahli desert, Nathan Drake discovered the Fabled El Dorado." This isn't done simply to reference Nates previous adventures it's to tie together that they made Race the exact opposite of Nathan. Orphan Rich boy who was handed everything his entire life VS the Poor Orphan who had to work his entire life to become the legend he is known as. Rate like most doesn't believe Nate actually found those things but it will go down by many that that's who Nathan is and Race didn't want him to be the one who discovered Avery's treasure he wanted it to be him. And of course in the end everything is handed to him by Nate and Sam. Even his death is handed to him as Nate lets Rafes own greed for the treasure and glory kill him.

My problem with Nadine has nothing to do with her being a "Mary Sue" or "politics" or any of that shit. I just don't like her for the sole reason that she's dull. Her personality is overly edgy, a no-nonsense tough girl mercenary, and she doesn't have a satisfying character arc. If she were just an antagonist, this would be ok, but she's clearly being set up as the next Uncharted protagonist, and Lost Legacy proves how she doesn't work for that.

Thank you for your insights! I was thinking recently a lot about story theme is something like: love versus obsession. And story making definitions: love is about care, trust and respect, it’s requires healthy balanced approach. while obsession is unbalance selfish, alienating and distructive, caused harm and disorder. So hero managed to find love and get his brother out of his obsession, which also reminds plot of helping relative with distructive addiction.

I’m gonna be honest, I was shocked when you kept mentioning that you thought the boss fight was underwhelming. I dislike all gun fight boss fights in any video game. I think 4’s boss fight was perfect, melee battles are the most personal way to end a villain and hero’s fight. I also liked that it was fast pace and had cool mechanics of skin and clothes being cut. It also did have that cool contrast as you stated with how thieves and pirates used to fight. I was hyped the entire battle about how great it was for the story to end with that fight. I do wish it had been like the concept art though (Nate and Rafe fighting ontop of the pirate ship instead of inside) the only time I’ve seen a boss fight like that done horribly was last of us 2. Anyways, great video! Love the points you made! I also agree about the Nadine situation. Great stuff!

Regarding the fact that Rafe and Nadine were underdeveloped, one thing I adore about this game is that every line, every expression, every action, tells you so much about each character. Yes, I absolutely would've loved to see Rafe and Nadine get more screentime, learn more about their purposes, lives and see them grow more, in fact everything I see in the story about them just leaves me wanting to know more and more, but on the other hand, there's SO MUCH said about them in between the lines, in all their scenes or what's commented about them in some encounters where they're not present. Including Sam here, I really felt like they were all real people, that their characters were first thought of and written and not just made up for the convenience of a story, that they all had their own set of mind and philosophies they live by, and (that thing in writing) that the writers were always trying to show you so much about each of them within the limited time each had on screen, and I just love seeing it. Everything about the characters in this game feels made with intent. What I'm trying to say is that I appreciate so much that they didn't take Rafe, Nadine and Sam's scenes as an opportunity to try to shove down your throat all their backstory, philosophy and purpose with unrealistically descriptive dialogues, like "ah yes nadine you know how i really have to find this treasure because otherwise i'll just keep on being known for my inheritance as a spoiled rich boy, and that be real bad for me, so please tell your men, from the organization you got from your father, to stop blowing up everything" (pretty exaggerated but you know what I mean, we've all seen it in other media), and instead, everything about their scenes feels real, on character, and you get to see little glimpses of who they are and what they believe in every single line and facial expression and action and UGH I LOve it so much :)

Even the "Lure of adventure" music from the Uncharted 4 soundtrack has that very same whistle. Lure of adventure clearly meaning the attractive and hard to resist quality of adventure. I listen to the soundtrack everyday and Uncharted 4 is my favourite in the series.

Couple notes: other than just cause and spiderman, i dont remember any games pre UC4 having grappling hooks. This game was kindof the catalyst for everything getting a grappling hook. Even dunkey commented on it in his review how no games had grappling hooks. Second: totally agree with the "encounter select" option. Last of Us 2 did it as well, its great for wanting to get really specific on replaying a big moment

Uncharted 4 was my first playstation games. So it had a special place in my heart. It has a good multiplayer that was fun and engaging and basically had my favorite game modes also it had an awesome rank system that they sadly dropped. I feel like it's weird that they went for a more mature story by not adding any crazy creatures or the fact that the Style was way too different from how the plot was made.

Uncharted 4 and The Lost legacy both left me with 2 big issues. 1) The melee combat was jarringly poor compared to the rest of the excellent gameplay. 2) It ended, my biggest problem was that there wasn’t more and no other game could itch the same spot. I really hope they eventually go through with the Sam/Sully game they teased at the end

Robert McKee mentioned on one of his workshops, that theme of "lie" is a canon of love story plot. It's always there drama tension around trust, when in climax lie is revealed and relationships seems to be collapsed, but eventually characters confessed to each other and relationships became even stronger, with new level of ultimate trust.

I just played through this game for the first time and I had no idea about the whole Nadine thing. She was obviously very good at fighting and had a certain finesse that Nate just didn’t have. Nate always felt like he was swinging at random hoping to get in a good punch while Nadine was calculating everything and was treating the fight like a dance. The argument is ironic because Nadine is fighting “like a girl” being very elegant and using her advanced sense of balance and flexibility against Nate who’s just using strength and size to his advantage. I never felt like her fighting was OP and in fact she knew when to back down and she did multiple times

And also this is the first game I’ve played like this aside from Stray. (By that I mean a parkour game with a story and buts of action thrown in) I just got my ps4 two weeks ago and for a fresh player, this game was absolutely perfect. I had no idea what I was doing and found the game to be very difficult at times even though it’s just quick time events. The story was on par for a regular action movie and the combat was better than anything I’ve ever played. I really REALLY enjoyed it and I’m sad to see so many people in the comments saying it’s bland and boring. This game made me desperately want to travel the world and go on adventures and that’s saying a lot for an anxious shut-in like me. I felt so much nostalgia for games I’ve never played before and it made me really emotional. I can’t understand why anyone wouldn’t like this game

2 men getting beaten up by a militarily trained woman in Uncharted 4 - That's unrealistic. That same woman along with another woman getting beaten up by a male doctor in Uncharted the Lost Legacy - Perfectly realistic. Also guess which one is considered more "woke".

nah nah nah, nadina kicking ass isn't lame because it's unrealistic, it's lame because we have no agency over it. it's a scripted loss and no one in the history of the universe has ever enjoyed a scripted loss.

My only real gripe with U4 is the blatant plothole with Sam's sudden existence. I understand they tried to make it work with Nate, essentially, ignoring the fact that he ever had a brother. But given some events in U3 with Marlowe, it just makes Sam seem to come out of thin air. If they had least _implied_ Nate had a "dead" brother, okay -- problem solved. Outside of that, I enjoyed 4. But it just never sat well with me that they kind of insult the players' intelligence with that move. Also, while I understood Sam's motives and logic....damn, that was a majorly dick move he made. Even after seeing what impact it had on Nate's life, he insisted on keeping up the charade. It really irked me. He literally watches his brother argue with is wife, risking their marriage, and then sees the mental and emotional affect it takes on Nate...and decides "Eh, it'll be fine." Maybe he felt guilty at times, sure. But he never felt as guilty as he should have. I get that, if he _had_ said anything, the story would have probably been over a lot sooner -- and yes, the moment Nate finds out the truth is fantastic -- I love it! Especially since Rafe's _(Warren Cole's)_ acting was brilliant there! But Nate was doing it because he genuinely believed his brother's life was in danger -- and I think it's safe to say that, even if Sam told him sooner, Nate would still do it out of obligation. He was already in that deep, and clearly cares a lot about his brother. There would be no reason for him not to continue on. I don't know. Some may disagree with that last bit, but that's my take on it, anyway. A lot of my dislike stems from the logic behind his existence: if you ask me, it just doesn't work as well as they tried to make it.

when nate is telling elena about sam after she finds him in the islands, nate says that sometimes one of them would be outside of jail and the other inside. I find this to sort of explains why even in uncharted 3 when nate meets sully, sam is nowhere thats cause he's probably in some jail, and he meets sully later.
@LoneGamerNerd

@@ysurfed4648 Oh, no I totally understand that Sam could have simply been in jail at that time. It just doesn't explain why Marlowe never knew if she had a record of Nate's life. I get it... But I also don't. I'm sorry -- it's a bit of a plot hole.

My problem with the Nadine fight is that it heavily nerfs the player’s abilities in order to achieve its desired result. Nate moves slower, attacks slower, can’t dodge or counterattack. The moment I realised it was essentially just a cutscene, I put the controller down. I don’t come away thinking Nadine is a badass, I come away thinking “that was bullshit”. I probably wouldn’t have a problem if it was just a cutscene, but the fact that it’s presented as a playable encounter ruined it for me.

I have a personal connection to the theme of uncharted 4 because of the games which is beautiful. I wanted to play uncharted 4 almost immediately after uncharted 3 for "just one last ride" and just was not satisfied with the concept of Nate going to get married and living a normal life. Nates fate is exactly that and he too is unsatisfied with it but through the game I learn with nate that maybe a happy ending is enough and there doesnt need to be another go round and to be true... I'm at the same point as Nate, I'm going to be playing lost legacy to have another adventure but I'm really happy that Nate's legend has finally had an ending so like nate, a nice mix between the ending and the adventure

If you try to say the games too political because a woman kicks his ass then you're an idiot who doesn't even know what the word politics means. And saying its justf a climbing simularo with terrible writing is just false. It's not less an action game then the others

The video was heavily underperforming. It seems that the last few videos have had that issue, as it was the same with Dishonored. I like the “x years later” format, but it seems it just isn’t viable anymore. It’s probably for the best, as I wouldn’t be able to get creative with titles and thumbnails if they are constricted to templates.

On the contrary I actually quite liked the variety of enemies, in the auction house you are introduced to basic enemies in a fun and thrilling way, in Scotland you are introduced to snipers in a situation where you also can use a sniper, in Madagascar you are introduced to armored soldiers and explosive wielding enemies, I think it was on the island where you face off against minigunners... all in all it steps up in difficulty perfectly for me by adding new enemies in the mix, and concluding with my personal favorite action sequence, the pirate shipyard. Yes checkpoints are merciful but I personally liked the difficulty and fear of death that came with resetting the encounter every time I died Sure there is no thief vision but you can mark enemies yourself; I actually really like that because you yourself need to make the conscious effort to remember their positions and not just have see through vision like some damn super hero, playing on with what you said about Nate being a super lucky average Joe. Something I found funny is in the same cutscene where its revealed that Sam had lied to Nathan, Rafe says something like "Oh Nadine these guys don't kill in cold blood" but we had literally gone through like a hundred of his guys at that point

LOVE your analysis of Nadine, because that was my thought too. Nate isn't trained in combat and a huge portion of these games is Nate's luck and how it influences the story. Through the canonical cutscenes, we see that past bosses were always ultimately defeated by a gun. Nate got lucky up to this point that his scrapping abilities carried the day; it makes sense that a canonically trained fighter would kick his ass.

Uncharted 4 is my favourite as it removes the monsters and just allows for a grounded (as much as an uncharted game can be anyway) story. It did lack in big events like the plane scene from 3 and the train from 2. Either way it is by far my favourite and the game I see as the best
