I am Pipao, an uncle who sold his company, retired early and FIRE, and now makes money from shares and travels.
I was paid $10,000 in stock dividends in November, so I was excited to take a business class trip to Vietnam, 5 days and 4 nights, 3380dollars for 2 people.
Located in Quang Ninh Province in northern Vietnam, Halong Bay was inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 1994 and is one of the country's most scenic spots. This unique and mysterious landscape was created over a long period of time by the erosion of a limestone plateau that stretches from Guilin in China.
The spectacle created by the 3,000 oddly shaped limestone stones of all sizes that appear to float on the water continues to attract travellers from all over the world. Another of Ha Long Bay's attractions is that it looks different depending on the weather and time of day, and is a sight not to be missed at sunrise or sunset.
Take your time to see Halong Bay, a World Heritage Site famous for its spectacular scenery.
Description of Halong Bay:
The bay is located in the north-western part of the Gulf of Tonkin in northern Vietnam. Located south of Halong City in Quang Ninh Province, it is made up of limestone karst formations,[1] including Cut Ba Island (English version), and as many as 3,000 odd-shaped rocks and islands of various sizes. Legend has it that during the Chinese invasion of Vietnam, a dragon father and son appeared and defeated the enemy, and the jewels they spat out of their mouths became the islands in the bay. Apart from Cut Bar Island, the islands are now uninhabited, but were only marginally inhabited during the Neolithic period, some 7,000 years ago. They were also used as hideouts for pirates until a few centuries ago, and were used militarily during the Mongol Empire's invasion of Vietnam (English version).
The sculptural landscape of the islands changes its brilliance according to the position of the sun, and rain and fog also create an atmospheric atmosphere. Geologically, it is part of a vast limestone plateau stretching from Guilin (Guangxi, China) in the north to Ninh Binh in the south. The limestone plateau has been subjected to sedimentation and erosion, resulting in its present appearance. The islands are also rich in biota, with Cut Bar Island home to the endemic Cut Barangur (English version), as well as endangered hawksbill turtles and seahorses [1]. The area has a humid tropical monsoon climate, with a distinct wet and dry season. Typhoons are frequent, with 28% of the typhoons that hit the coast of Vietnam appearing in the region [1].
The area was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site (Natural Heritage) in 1994 [2]. The area around Cuthbert Island is also rich in tropical moist forests, wetlands, mangroves, coral reefs and seagrass beds, and was designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2004 [1]. It is also a member of the French NGO World's Most Beautiful Bays Club, which is supported by UNESCO.
