They are $10k to $15k each unit and need regular maintenance and specialist annual training to operate. The local area council pays for this whole Bondi/Bronte set up as a service to their community. Add to that the cost of wages, equipment and jet skis and that’s a lot of upkeep for a single shire. They supplement with volunteers who do lifesaving as a sport/club activity and these groups get their resources from charity drives and non-profit grants. Remember, Australia is not a highly populated country, even there, by comparison. It is mainly due to the extremely high number of tourists that they provide professionals to patrol these beaches. Majority of local beaches are unpatrolled or have a volunteer service doing the job on relatively safe swimming beaches set up for that specific purpose with stinger nets etc. Defibs wouldn’t be available at all those places.

The boys haven't answered yet, but I can. Move straight towards the beach but if you feel like you can't make it, HAND STRAIGHT UP. Arm full extension. That's the Australia-wide signal for HELP I'M DROWNING. Of course, that only works at a patrolled beach - but that's the best place I recommend swimming, ESPECIALLY if you have a medical condition.

I think I’d rather have an ambulance called for me and then not need it - which someone mentioned doesn’t cost the patient - than need an ambulance and for one not to be called. An ambulance may cost a grand, but a life is priceless. It’s procedure to call an ambulance for someone literally dragged unconscious from the sea, and they always advise it for people who’ve swallowed water (or at least advise a trip to hospital). They also have to call one if they administer the green whistle, and if they have an injury/illness they can’t treat (which are more often than not well beyond requiring advanced first aid). Better safe than sorry when it’s someone’s health at stake.
@g8600
4 жыл бұрын
@@Theaterfreak Unconscious post drowning- yes. Hurty elbow or sprained ankle-no. These guys call 000 just to make the show more dramatic, but dont realise that they are putting other lives at risk by wasting resources. Perhaps a short lecture on common sense and when to tell people to make their own way. They dont "have" to call 000 if they have a illness/injury that they cant treat (literally everything as they are basic first aiders).

This is my favorite show of all time ❤️ I've learned so much from Bondi Rescue about surf safety and first aid, and watching the show makes me feel really happy and inspired when I see the beautiful beach and the dedicated lifeguards who save lives and prevent danger every day. 🏖🌊 And I've also been able to work on my severe phobia of vomiting through seeing those drowning victims vomit and understanding that it can be a good survival mechanism and doesn't have to be so dramatic. Every time someone is helped out of danger I get happy and relieved. I just love this show! And I want more seasons... 😅
