Wow Elyssa you have done it again, a brilliant walking tour and at once shown us a church we have never taken any notice of despite being in Rome so many times and have been past many times, The Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Matiri. As we aew very near the termini when we are in Rome later in the year we will certainly look around as well as all of the other churches you show us on this walk, You keep giving us more and more hidden gems, thank you so much Rome is not Rome without you.

Hi Peter! Thanks as always for your thoughtful, generous comments. I'm always glad I can share something new, especially with seasoned Rome visitors like you! I know that so many people walk by that church precisely because of its nondescript exterior. That's why I wanted to showcase it. It takes me breath away every time I go inside and see that soaring ceiling that Michelangelo designed. I hope you'll check it out when you are in Rome next, and let me know what you think! Thanks as always for all your support!! It means a lot to me!

Got back home to the UK from Rome a couple of weeks ago. Your channel was wonderful for helping to plan our trip. One highlight was booking the rooftop tour of Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore. We wouldn't have known to have done that if it wasn't for your recent video. Thank you. And keep up the great work! Your channel is an asset to a wonderful city.

Thank you so much for your kind comments! I'm so glad you got to do that rooftop tour of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore. I think many people miss that church entirely and it's a shame because it's so beautiful! But the walk on the roof really puts it over the top! Glad to know my video helped. Thanks again for saying such nice things about me and my channel. I am very grateful!

Good explanation of the Meridian in Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri. I think most visitors don't get it at all and the explanatory signage is just in Italian if I recall correctly (at least it was the last time I was in there).

Thank you! I actually did a deep dive into studying it because I wanted to understand what it was and how it worked. I love sharing arcane things like this because I hope it makes a difference in how people enjoy my videos. Thanks a lot for noticing and commenting! (PS - in the sacristy in the back, it is explained also in English but the explanation is far from clear in either language.)

Rome is really worth visiting. A small tip, though. Beware of bus inspectors...especially in your happiest moments. Coming back from landmarks when you are thrilled and excited might become a nightmare when these people ask for your bus ticket and you don't have it. Especially because buses in Italy allow you to get on but you can't pay for more than 1 person with the same credit card (nobody explains this so you bite the hook) so...if you are travelling with your couple or in groups with friends and one of you left the card in the hotel you are doomed. These people won't listen to you...they are like angry with their own lives and the whole world has to suffer. They hate tourists and have no problem to escalate the uncomfortable moment to the next level. Best idea. Buy your bus tickets for a week even when you go for 3 days...don't try to use your cards unless you travel alone. They are coming for you. Italy is beautiful but its law enforcement officers are a real pain in the neck....just saying.

@@Romewise it happened to an American girl the very first day I landed there. She was screaming her chest out. Then it happened to a group of friends coming back from the Forum and finally to an English couple coming back from Pisa(it was so common at that moment that I had it on tape that time). It's sad, very sad...and the couple refused to pay so they were taken to the Police. Italian officers hate tourists.

I love the markets and really would like to visit the one you mentioned. Could you possibly give me the name? And it would be great to have a video on the markets in Rome or Florence? - When you wonder about what theme next. :-) Thanks for the great content.

Thanks so much! Yes, near the Napoleon, you will find the Piazza Vittorio market, officially known as the Mercato Esquilino. I don't yet have a video about markets in Rome, but I'll put that idea on my list! In the meantime, I do have a page about Rome markets on the website: www.romewise.com/rome-food-markets.html In these videos, I share 3 of the top markets in Florence - 2 food and 1 leather: kzitem.info/news/bejne/lqGw2Zt_iIKqeKQ kzitem.info/news/bejne/1omI3m2BhIOmZY4

I really do love your wanders. The first time I was in Rome, we stayed on the via Nationale. My son's favourite thing in the evening was to have ice cream at the Spanish Steps, to sit, and people watch. Nearly 20 years ago. We would walk back via the Quatro Fontaine. We also did your route in 2022. A trip down memory lane. So to speak. Thank you for another great video.

Thanks for sharing your memories - I think the Spanish Steps does evoke that kind of nostalgia about what it was like to visit here 20 years ago (around when I moved here!) It was definitely a bit quieter and yes, you could sit on the steps (which you can't do now.) Things have certainly changed! Thanks again and as always for your support!
