There is something so amazingly satisfying about clearing land. I spent a month last year doing ours and still 4 hectares I have never ventured into.It is such a joy. Thanks for the wicking beds Idea Luke - I have built 2 4 by 1 metre beds and we are half way through 3 and 4 in the poly tunnel - you guys are going to have to come and help us out with the harvest as it is a lot of fun getting all those seeds germinated. We have quite a lot to share especially using the rather abundant river sand for wicking. Just so beautiful seeing you both rapturous over the land. Thanks for another great idea guys.

Saving your volunteer Holm and Cork oaks is very smart. Lay down a mulch ring on their roots now. This winter coming, prune the lowest branch and any crossing, damaged or dead wood to encourage a single leader. You will be surprised by the growth and vigor next spring. Repeat the process annually to encourage good consistent growth.

As someone from the Americas; where history is seemingly always filtered through an European centric (colonial) lens... The meaning of the Americas land's "true history", measured by indicators of human activity is largely obscured or undefined; and seemingly moreso in northern regions. (Canada here). So unearthing vast earthworks... the levels of past cultivation as seen in Portugal is INCREDIBLY FASCINATING. And Sarah and Luke... You have and are seem ever improving in your STORY TELLING! Hi guys, It was lovely to see another video of yours. What are you going to do with the piglets? You can't release them on the wild because they are being fed by you, so they're not learning how to forage food? I think there is something wrong with your camera because your last 3 videos get darker suddenly. What are your plans for your land, apart from restoring the ruin? You could do a farmland with all sorts of farm pets and open it to school trips, etc. Love you

Hi Sara lovely place Luke uncovered for your Birthday 🎈. Loved seeing the piglets as well. I have a question for you regarding your raspberries. We live near Seville and probably have even hotter summers but not so cold winters as you. We have our first raspberry plant in which is doing very well at the moment (only 25-28c) at the moment in partial shade. I noticed you had a permanent? shade up above them. Does this work during the summer and stop them dying off completely. Also what other plants do you keep under the permanent shade. Many thanks 😊😊

What is wicking?
@lukeandsarahsoffgridlife
7 ай бұрын
The basic theory behind wicking beds is that the water is stored in an airtight reservoir underneath the soil, and it “wicks” up through the soil to the roots above as the plants transpire moisture through their leaves. Depending on its size, the reservoir can keep the soil moist for up to 10 days.
