Partly agree. They are also human beings and are fallible - they do commit crimes, can be violent and so on. That's why sanathan dharma that is vedic dharma is a spiritual evaluation process. vedantha says that it is impossible to worship brahman which is ultimate consciousness because it is beyond any human thinking and consciousness. That's why vedic dharma does not tells you to blindly follow any scriptures. In vedic dharma there is a concept of knowing or experiencing the supreme so during this process anyone can come up with own philosophies to know the truth and there is no restriction in vedic dharma unlike abrahamic religions. That's why anyone who practice meditation and yoga with immense concentration can able to attain nirvana( Enlightenment) just like Mahaveer and Gautama buddha and can start your own teachings by following the basic dharma which is common for everyone.

I am Catholic but I learned about the subject Philosophy in school and the belief in Karma in Hindu religion and have been intrigued by the concept of karma that even now, when something happens to me or someone I know,, I would be reminded of the law of karma, and then would accept that what just happened to me was probably related to what I did in my past life. And similarly when I “plant”some kindness with what I did for someone, for example, that means that my relatives in their future will be treated with kindness as well. In other words, it’s nice to know that Vivek is Hindu.

Similar to Biblical, 'what you sow, you reap' dictum. But Hinduism introduces rebirth/reincarnation and the concept that your karmic account is a running book, just like financial accounts that companies keep! Hinduism also has the concept of a guru taking on your negative karmic acts, very similar to Jesus taking on your sins and God forgiving you. Lots of parallels with Christianity.

Hindus worship many manifestation of one God (as we don't have Prophet tradition) which is not christian practice but I must say India is the home of many faith (Persian, Jews,Sikh ,Bahai etc) who were prosecuted everywhere in this World . Yes, however with respect to Vivek's words to a judeo-christian audience, the Christian concept of equality differs somewhat though not contradictory. While he's drawing on 5:18 and 18:54 verses of the Gita-where it says, the truly learned sees with equal vision a brahmin, a cow, an elephant, a dog, and a dog-eater, because he sees God in the heart of all of them-the christian notion of equality is based on the sovereignty and the (spiritual) heritage of the individual soul (you/me). The bible says we are made in the image of God, which means, like God we are sovereign entities and our freedoms/equality stem from that, not from God residing in out hearts. A form of God is in every atom, yet we don't regard a pile of dog-poo . . . well, you get my point.

Amazing clarity. The principles of Hinduism explained in a simple, accurate manner. I bet that at least 80% of the Hindus will not have this much understanding or knowledge about their own faith. That is not to trivialize their faith or devotion. But a 1000 years of invasions, persecution, and colonialism has decimated the native faith and culture to the the point that it was a miracle that our ancestors managed to still hold on to the faith and keep it alive as of today, unlike Europe and the Americas where the native cultures were completely exterminated.

Do read Shreemd Bhagwat Geeta. Dharma, Kama, Aarth & Moksha are various objectives at various stages of life i.e BRAHMACHARYA, GREHASTH, VANPRASTHA and SANNYAS. Dharm is what we learn at BRAHMACHARYA, Kama and Aarth are the objectives at GREHASTH stage and MOKSHA is what we try to achieve at Later stages of Vanprastha and Sanyasa. Personally I see things in this way - Philosophical aspects of Dharm is what helps us to stay rooted & strive towards righteousness & guide us through the thick & thins of our life. Meanwhile Karma-Kanda i.e Dharmik Rituals helps us to make the best out of this Materialistic world. They serves as ur sign of devotion to particular gods & ur thankfulness towards them & also as a formal request to them to help u with THINGS (both emotional & physical one) in this world. Above THINGS are what we called KAMA & AARTH. These things are what we require to live our 'Grehasth' i.e Household life. But we learn How to conduct oneself, how to control our desires & emotions, how to live our Household life properly in our Earlier stage i.e 'Brahmcharya' or Celibacy life/Student life. But since DHARM is not taught nowadays in Student life. Our Household life is also falling apart. So when our Base is not there how can one expect to achieve MOKSHA. Now it's upto us only How & when we start learning abt Dharm. So I wld say start Today only without wasting the time. Learn abt Dharm, Do rituals & try to make the best out of this as well as the other world. You can think as ur rebirth & we know learning abt Dharm starts from the birth only.

No matter the explanations, I can see in his eyes, his voice, and his countenance a very good man. He has a beautiful spirit. I'm an exceptional judge of someone (one of my rare talents) and I've no qualms about VR. With his Christian-oriented high school years, he's got a knowledge about Christianity that I'm guessing many Christians are less aware & less appreciative of the tenets of the faith. He is someone I'll put my 'faith' in as far as a man qualified to run a primarily Christian-based nation.

The Paksh - Krishna and Sukla is essentially aligned wit Moon but also Nakshatra and Rashi, thats constellations..So in a nutshell Hindua use both Pkasha as well as Seven days system, they are just used for different purpose.

Great video! I have noticed lots of low key similarities and common treads running through Hinduism and Judaism. I eventually converted to Judaism in my lifetime, but I have always had a fascination and respect for Hinduism. My roommate is a Buddhist and it really works well. He is agnostic though and we dont have deeply religious dialogues. When you look at the surface it would probably not make sense, but there are so many theoretical similarities running through both traditions and too many coincidences. I heard a Rabbi describe an encounter with a Hindu youth who asked him if he had heard of God. He was confused and upon further banter the man said "God!" "G-O-D. Generator. Operator. Destroyer." That sounds a lot like The God of Abraham, and Brahmin. Its just one of many little goosebumps moments you can get. Abraham and Sara. Brahmin and Sarasvati. Historical and scriptural references to ancient connections between peoples. Adjacency to the fertile crescent. At the end of the day, we are all Gods children. All just a big broken family.

Thanks for presenting a critique from a Sanatan Dharmic perspective; we see so much of critique from the Western, Judeo-Christian lens, even about things related to India and to Dharma. So it is really refreshing and gladdens my heart to see a complete critique from a Hindu perspective. Just one nit to pick: from what I understand, the shastras and all books treat marriage as indeed between only a man and a woman, since the purpose (dharma, as it were) of marriage is explicitly procreation, so that does leave out gays and lesbians. Do such marriages happen nowadays? I don't doubt that they do. But then, I have also seen "feminists" wanting to have a Hindu wedding but not accepting kanya-daan as an essential part of the Vedic vivaah. People can justify anything and everything, but it doesn't make it right. As far as I understand it, Hinduism acknowledges gay (or third gender) existence but it can perhaps be characterized as tolerating it and not centering it, but also not harshly punishing it. That's probably not a bad approach even in today's times. Gay marriage would seem inauthentic to Vedic tradition.

Vivek went to a Catholic high school as a teenager and often talks about how that helped to shape his faith. I've seen Vivek give a high school speech saying similar things about his faith, and I've followed Vivek's career over the years, and he's always said the same things he's saying now. Therefore, it's inaccurate to portray Vivek as if he's not being honest about his Hindu faith because he's been saying this since High School, and it is, indeed, his own personal faith, which may be different from others. (Interesting to note that Vivek had been on the board of that High School for years before he ran for president, revealing this Catholic High School remained important to him into his adulthood). Vivek claims to be Hindu, but not every Hindu believes in the same things - even down to core beliefs. Just as there are MANY denominations within the Christian faith, there are many divisions across all religions because humans are complicated, and we don't all believe in the same things. As a practicing Christian myself, I can tell you that there are many different groups of people who claim to be Christian and have completely different core beliefs than I do. If one of the individuals from this group ran for president, though I strongly hold different beliefs from them, it would be wrong for me to assume they are lying about being a Christian because they believe different things than I do as a Christian. In other words, it's wrong to presume Vivek is being dishonest about what he personally believes as a Hindu, only to win favor as a candidate (especially, as he's stated part of his beliefs was formed in a Catholic High School) - it's very possible that the man actually believes what he says he believes. As a Christian, Vivek and I believe VERY differently about many things and would strongly disagree about those things. However, I see no reason to believe a Hindu can't believe similar things to me as a Christian, just like I know many who consider themselves Christians to believe similar things as Hindus. Again, humans are far more complicated when it comes to our beliefs and core values.

I'm also a Hindu that went to Catholic Middle School and High School. And only discovered my Hindu faith fully after realizing that both faiths teach the same things. This led me on a journey through various Indian, Hebrew and Biblical scriptures. After 15 years of seeking, I now completely believe that the teachings propagated by all faiths are one and the same, just distorted here and there due to the influences of time and mans ego. From what I've learned YHWH is the breath of life, take a deep breath in and let it out, you will hear YHWH. It is the first word that God (Your uninfluenced consciousness) spoke, the first breath. But due to the influences of the world, our upbringing, geography, the things we consume, we start to believe we are the material body and lose our connection to the conscious self. Yoga and meditation is the process of controlling the breath so that you may calm the body and mind enough to connect with the uninfluenced consciousness (going past the 3rd state of sleep REM sleep into the 4th state, Turiya). This uninfluenced consciousness is a part of God and is the universal consciousness that holds all life together. By connecting to it, you make it possible to bring God into this world and work through you. There is obviously much more to this, but you should read 'God-Man: The Word Made Flesh' by George W. Carey written in 1920. Also read, 'The Yoga of Jesus' and 'The Autobiography of a Yogi' by Parmahansa Yogananda. Here is a little glimpse as to the philosophical topics talked about in The Autobiography of a Yogi. kzitem.info/news/bejne/zIit3XWNs6yCaoosi=g9J2fq7FFzhUw4E_

@@VeganSanatani And what exactly did I say wrong here? The oldest Bible is the Ethiopian Bible. Ethiopean King at the time King Haile Selassie believed that he himself was a descendent of Ram after reading the Indian scriptures. The Bible was written with an esoteric meaning so that the Romans could not decipher its secrets. But later when the Roman Catholics took over the Church they propagated these false teachings in order for their own ruling benefit. And so the true meaning of the Bible was lost during the Dark Ages, where it was primarily used to convert rather than enlighten. What Moses and Jesus taught was raising ones kundalini energy.
