Took IONITY Passport Power membership for annual Glasgow to North Wales holiday in my MG5 - efficiency not great as fully loaded and large roofbox. Charged at Carlisle (12 units but always very busy) and Blackburn Darwen Services. Excellent experience and only 43p/kWh. Also took Tesla membership and used Flint Mountain - likely ‘lost’ money on this membership. Had planned on visiting Aberystwyth and use Tesla units there but plans changed. Visited these three locations both there and coming back. Carlisle operating at capacity and Blackburn was a short detour from M6 but worth it. Previously used MFG at Crow Orchard but too expensive compared to IONITY passport. Also used Podpoint at Lidl 65p/kW which seems expensive for 50kW but no other options other than 85p/kW InstaVolt whilst in Conwy. Refusing to pay that price though.

Hi Dave, Have you talked about the Tesla superchargers in car parks that require payment for the car park on top of the cost of charging? The Tesla app will add these to your route without mentioning you have to pay for parking. E.g. Heathrow Hilton Terminal 5 where you have to pay £6.60 for an hour plus charging. I would avoid these if possible, but why doesn't Tesla provide this information?

As a Dutch watcher, I'm flabbergasted by the Kwh prices for public chargers in the UK. What is the general price for a Kwh for a home connection in the UK as a comparison? Here in the Netherlands a home connection is 26 cts per Kwh. Public chargers range from 28 to 80 cts. where the slow public chargers are around 35 ct. Tesla is the cheapest with super chargers between 28 and 35 ct (open to all). The SHELL and Total fast chargers at the petrol stations are the most expensive of up to 80 ct per Kwh. These are all Euro cents. There are about 130.000 public charging points in the Netherlands

Uk home charging depends on supplier, I have octopus agile and it was about 6p kWh a few days ago. The week before it was -2p at peak they actually paid me whilst charging. But average it’s about 8-10p over night. So I’m flabbergasted you have to pay 26c in the Netherlands.

Companies like Shell and BP installing chargers on their own petrol station forecourts should be able to get their prices down below those at places like motorway services because they shouldn't have any ground rents to pay for the space they occupy; that could be a saving of between £4k and £10k per bay per annum.

Is there anything in place to limit the time and EV can be plugged in to a public charger. For example a train station on the outskirts of Cardiff, has recently had three EV chargers in the car park. What's to stop someone plugging in a car and catching a train into town to spend the day shopping and preventing anyone else using that charger. Another example. I noticed a story from Australia recently, where a driver, apparently, spent ' hours' sitting in his EV, occupying a charging station, whilst watching a movie. I'm sure he got grief from other drivers, but some people can be bloody minded when they choose to be.
