All the underground power cables installed inside substation needs to be adequately supported and secured to achieve maximum ampacity and heat dissipation.
In this video, we will see two types of Cable Support System, which is generally installed in substation.
• Cable Support Structure by Metal framing Channel
• Cable Ladder Structure
Cable Support Structure by Metal framing Channel
It is one of the easiest method and convenient for heavy weight cable
Followings are the some of the items, which are require for assembling of cable support structure
• Hot Dip Galvanized Channel
• Base Post
• Corner Angle
• Spring Channel Nut
• Screw & Washer
• Galvanized Fixture Bolt
• End Cap
We will see assembly of each item systematically as the video progress
So prior commencing the support installation work, the cable route needs to be properly examined to avoid any hindrance during execution of work.
The channels are fabricated into desired length as per the drawing. The cutting can be made using a high-speed grinder. After cutting, smooth the cut edges to remove any burrs.
Once the channels are fabricated, spring nuts are inserted into channel to fix the base post and horizontal layers of channel with corner angle.
Support needs to be installed at intervals necessary to provide a rigid fixing and to ensure that deflection does not exceed 5mm when fully loaded. The maximum distance recommended between two structure should not be more than 80 centimeter.
Heavy duty drill machine is used to fix the assembled support structure into the concrete base by fixture bolt.
Additional support needs to be provided where the Cable route changes direction to withstand the force exerted by bending of Power cable.
Situation may arise that during assembly process, the welding of channel may split off at certain point. It can be re-welded once all the structure are fixed. Zinc rich paint should be applied above welding surface to avoid rust.
