Underhand Cast con Caña de Dos Manos Underhand Cast with Doube Handed Rod Caña/Rod: Loop Multi 8130 Reel: Loop Opti Speedrunner Running Line: Loop .026 Shooting Head: Loop Adapted - Float Leader: 4,6 m
It is an underhand cast. The cast's 'father', G.Andersson, called the cast 'underhand' to emphasise the role of the left hand (for RH casters)to differentiate the cast from old-school spey-casting. Spey cast technique was originally for cane rods with a deep, buttish action where the upper hand provided power. The modification came about to adapt casting for modern, faster rods. A shorter, shooting style head was also prefered.

@djwave28 unless you use full sinking line.... or a sink tip. casting is like 10% of fishin with a fly rod. presentation and lure selection is where its at. you can get nice and crispy with your casting technique and not catch a damn thing. all i know is, once you get good and comfortable with your fly rod you'll never show up to a river or pond with a coffee can full of worms ever again. fly fishin is an awesome sport! you'll get hooked..........

I do a little spey instruction and I'd call it underhand. But it is close to the classic switch spey cast. Just a note, they all look good when you're not standing in 3.5' of moving river.

Then what is? The line travels UNDER the hand in the BC, hence an underhand cast!

This is nice. Guys, Skagit casting is no better than fishing with a baitcaster. Furthermore, Henrik could kick Ed's ass in a fight. So there.

@HOPSING08 Hi .,. thanks .. Yes I agree, fishing is about catching fish. Simply said it is about presenting the bait to the fish and not to the birds .. :-)

Respectfully disagree. Yes, fly fishing is an art, but it’s not about catching fish. It’s about the encounter with the fish - or the non-encounter for that matter.

The instructor showed nice, tight loops, but this is easy when the running line is anchored. Line speed was low, however, and I doubt that a real cast would have gone very far.

no but too many concentrate what the fly is doing in the air versus what it is doing in the water where the fish is

@ruel68ify Fly fishing is a lot more than set out some bait or lure. It is about landing a fly on the water and make it float with the water as natural as possible. These videos are there to help people on the casting. It may seem that way, but the assumption you make is not correct. At least not for the fisherman, but it may for the casterman. Look for surfcasting championship ... :-).. You'll find other inspired people..

@djwave28 There is absolutely no reason for Half of the casts in fly fishing except to show off. I bait fish AND fly fish, crazy huh? I respect both. Fly fishing is much more of an ART, but the problem with ART is that you always get a group of people who think that their art is better than yours. The true ART of fly fishing is catching the fish.

Brian Greenwood dug up a nice comment, yeah. 9 years ago I was living in SoCal fishing big lakes and very small streams. I now live in Missoula Montana and still think my statement stands but with some caveats to it and some adjustments. But yeah, fly fishing is about presentation. But big huge back casts and trying to get 75 yards of line out in your cast is ridiculous. (Exaggeration of course) fly fishing is much more simple in real terms. It is more important to get out in the water either via boat or waders so you don’t have to make huge grandiose casts.

Jesse H We’re talking different applications here. The Bitterroot, Blackfoot, Clark Fork, Rock Creek, etc. are all too small for Scandinavian Spey, which is depicted here. Single hand is all you need, though a case can be made for single hand Scandi lines and casts. I’m intimate with all these awesome blue ribbon streams from my time spent in Bozeman. Now live in central BC, fishing steelhead, salmon, and big trout on the Skeena and upper Columbia. Here it is essential to have a 120’ cast, 2 handed rod, and 70’ of head hanging out your rod tip to start the cast. Essential . . . and a freaking blast.

Kinda rips the water..maybe on heavy water it would be okay where all that ripping and splashing wouldn't matter.
