Can this be him? The one I have waited centuries to see? How strange So far from his path that I barely see the promise of glory Can this be him, this hellboy?
I love that even though we all have disagreements on beliefs, we all agree this song is amazing.

God, these lyrics speak to my heart so deliberately. Years ago, after a darker time in my life, when I was lost, I rediscovered my faith and was reborn with an enthusiasm and fire for God that nothing could extinguish. Now, because of complacency as a result of my life's improvement, that flame has slowly flickered down; I feel I am once again losing my faith: "How the freedom we had turned us up as dead men". I am still so grateful that I was saved, but my heart still yearns for the relationship with God I once had. I know there are others who have experienced the same. I pray God will bring us home once again. We won't forget our forgiveness!

Jake Mannix yeah check out the behind the scenes videos for this album. The amount of editing and mastering is minimal to the point that the producers took issue with it. Most of the guitar tones and feedback are recorded from mic feeds outside of the amps rather than line into internal effects and the vocals are pretty untouched. They said they wanted the dissonance and everything that they think sound unnatural. Pretty impressive.

Even tho I'm not Christian I definitely want to join the choir at my mothers church just to play songs like these and introduce everybody to new styles instead of modern Christian pop. I just really hate how the Christian pop sounds. Why are they trying so hard to copy mainstream music? From my expirience with christians, christianity clearly isn't about being mainstream and "normal" 🤣 so the music should probably reflect that and not copy every aspect of pop music.. I don't care if it caters to most people because "if they're Christian they should just deal with it if they don't like the music because worship is worship." -mother. I mean youre not gonna like EVERY song. these are people who think this genre of music is satanic which is just completely wrong. So many bands from this time that were emo or rock and such were also Christian or had Christian members like the devil wears prada, we came as roman's, breaking Benjamin, Emery, copeland, and skrillex!

My interpretation of the vid: It's a land not unlike our land. Technological "advances" litter the landscape (powerlines, zeppelin, clock, ships, buildings, lightbulbs, etc)... but for all of that the land is desolate. Death has a lock on the land, and the people are nearly comatose for lack of hope. The women and children are alone, and are hoping in ships and planes (and some are hoping in God) to deliver them from the dead and depressing land. And most of the men are like skeletons, marching in line with ("clapping") to the dead spirit that grips the land. For those few men who aren't zombies/skeletons, they are still oppressed (tied to the earth/bound to the earth). For them to break free they must rise up into the heavenly places and practice spiritual warfare. The heavens are violent and intense (3:28 and on)... but a man must go there and fight if he wishes to break free (4:04 and on).

***** This band is nothing like Tool. Read some of the interviews of the band members (escpecially Aaron Gillespie, who is the biggest contributor to the lyrics/songwritings). These guys had/have great hearts for Jesus. Having been a fan of Underoath since Define the Great Line released, I have kept up with the members of the band and the lyricism of their music and I can testify these guys are not fake, they are the real deal.
@ericchambers6863

***** You really don't need to jump the gun and make an outrageous claim when you clearly are without much understanding of who these guys stood for. Granted, a couple of their members left Christianity, but the message is still there. I can see where you could be confused. Oftentimes Christian Metal/hardcore bands will write their music based off situations or concepts. That means their music can be taken out of context easily. For example, Son of the Morning, by Oh Sleeper can be taken out of context if you don't listen to all of it. The overall concept of the album is how Satan opposes/despises God and his creation. The first song is Satan's viewpoint, then every song before the final track are stories of God using broken people to carry out his good plan. The final song is of the defeat over Satan, sin, and suffering. Listening to anyone of those songs stand alone can be very confusing without putting on the right lenses to understand them.
@drewdreiling8823

Do you even understand the basics of the good news of Jesus Christ?! Christ came for people, including the band members of Underoath!! And that is why they glorify God in this song, although I don't expect a religionist like you to perceive that. Haha... You have men like Tozer and Reidhead on your page- men who walked in the falsehood of religion vs the true form of Gods church, as is revealed in the scriptures. Do you know that the church is no business? Are you aware that she, like her master, despises denominations? Im sure you, being the true disciple you claim to be, are well aware of the unbiblical nature of the modern day office of the "pastor" (as Reidhead and Tozer laid claim to). Perhaps you ought to remain silent for some time and study and pray, before spouting off against some 20- something guys who, although frail, had courage to produce a song like this, which highlights the necessity of spiritual warfare in order to be an overcomer.

Good work to whoever created the music video. Very creative. As for the song... Intense climax at the end. I seriously need to get their albums.

If you like the build-up based tracks with the big ass climaxes at the end, Underoath songs you might like are: • Some Will Seek Forgiveness, Others Escape • Casting Such a Thin Shadow • Paper Lung • Pneumonia

As a south African past his prime. Listening to this makes me think of of the good ol days with his friends. Around the fire, chilling. Thinking of what life was throwing at us. But bands like this made us believe in those days

Underoath is considerably religious metal. A lot of there music "including this song" derives from there beliefs. You can listen to the music and enjoy the sound, and even enjoy the message you feel it brings. But that doesn't change the actual meaning of the song. No need for cocky people to come and smite religious folk. And no need for religious folk to feel the need to defend a song.

I don't know if people are questioning nu-metal being a thing (which it is) or your choice of labeling them as nu-metal (which they're not), but i agree that the under-rating is strong with this one. At least now. Back then they didn't seem to be but now there are a lot more humans on earth so, yes their percentage of being listened-to has gone down, if anything, because of the number of newer humans not listening to them yet! spread the word!!
