Interesting: what you describe for Sherlock, we use it with Watson (as in "good job, Watson") - to say that someone has solved a mystery that wasn't really any difficult to solve, might have actually been very obvious.

An extremely important topic - and well presented, too (no surprise here). I'd say Rocky, Rambo, and of course The Terminator belong on this list, as each is fictional and used in everyday speech to indicate an image related to a combination of specific traits. From the literature, I think Pinocchio, Robinson Crusoe, Count of Monte Cristo, and Romeo would ring a bell with most people, even those who have never actually read Collodi, Defoe, Dumas, and Shakespeare.
