It looks like you followed the most logical, methodical procedure. I also worked for Ford, was a Master technician, living in Pretoria, South Africa. Left December 2016. Started my own business. Was so sick of the warranty process and delays. I remember on the 2005 model focus mk 2, we had to remove the B.c.m or G.e.m, to replace the darn pollen filter. I can't tell you how many times I found those clips broken. 😂

Nice to see you popping up again Steve. Hope the new job is suiting you well. Must be part knowledge and part process here. I’m not a Ford guy so I wouldn’t have known that the PCM needs to be alive for any comms to take place. (So that part of your diag is definitely knowledge based). If I had that on a VAG vehicle, I’d definitely be off in a different direction. Is this because there is something akin to a ‘gateway’ built into the PCM on a Ford? Not seen it myself since I don’t see many Fords but I had heard about the washer fluid into BCM issue. Wonder if this car has had a BCM already for that problem and someone was a bit rough with their handling of the connector latches? Anyway, however your diag process might be characterised, it’s clearly quick and effective. Totally agree with your cable tie fix btw; the object is to get the car running and you achieved that. Permanent fix can come later. Thanks for sharing, regards, Russ.

It looks like the whole fusebox is liable to be kicked by the passenger when they stretch out. I imagine the connector has suffered damage that way.

Nice diag & repair and yes sometimes we have to use zipties in ingenious patterns to secure plugs with broken or malfunctioning locks vs charging the customer to depin & replace plugs. Process & knowledge is what fixes vehicles.
