Hello brother, I wanna thank you for the support in the Aviation community. I took all your advice it wasn’t easy, I passed my Airframe. And I passed my powerplant with 76% currently studying 📖 my O&P for powerplant for next month, thank you for all the educational tips

My ‘49 Champ still to this day has the original tachometer without a meter. Time has been tracked all these years by everyone that’s flown it. Which I’d argue is just as accurate, if not more, than several A&P’s entering meter numbers wrong over 70+ years. lol A couple things I think are worth adding. Most tachometers only count accurately at normal operating rpm. Lower idle speeds, the meter goes a lot slower. Therefore, they have the Hobbs meters which, in addition to what you mentioned, is also activated by an oil pressure switch. Flight schools like this because the tach might say you flew for an hour, but the Hobbs counted your 12 minutes on the ground too for a total of 1.2hrs. I’ve seen in some special cases (experimental) where the Hobbs is actually active with the master switch as well. (I personally would never do this) Also, you can, and I think it’s worth the effort and $, to have the correct hours put on a replacement tachometer. - Glenn CFI/A&P

I agree, the flight school I used to work for once had us replace a tach but didn't want to pay the money to have the current Total Time put on it... thanks for making us all do math boss. Also one of the rental aircraft I work on has the Rental Hobbs wired direct to the master and a maintenance Hobbs from oil pressure. I personally think it's a little weird to do it that way but that's what they wanted

Most Diamond aircraft factory installed Hobbs run on master. We always disconnected it during maintenance

What classifies total aircraft time in my airline is as soon as the FDR turns on the clock start running. But that only happens when the APU comes on. So some of our maintenance procedures calls for total APU hours of operation and APU starts. Then again this is commercial airlines.

Ya know, I’d kill for someone like you to do practice O&Ps with, I think the hardest thing for me right now is, working a job and studying but at the same time worry about a test that makes you wait 30 days after you failed it, plus 600$ wasted… I feel like aircraft jobs should hire from schools or do co ops more, without the pickiness, I’ve wasted so much time working as a mechanic but not on the right mechanics ie. Airplanes, and I think you would understand O&Ps so much better if you had job experience.

I agree the only real way to learn and remember it is to work it every day.
