Hi me from 2 years ago, it's me from the future. Instead of 100 subscribers like you say in this video, we're at 1,200 subscribers now, and we've had hundreds of conversations with people looking for help and have helped them. Good job me from the past, and everyone who trusted me then and still today.

Not having parity increases competition and gatekeeping. Excellent points and I love the analogy too! I'm currently taking Coursera's Learning How to Learn course and now I'm thinking maybe it's high time for me to pursue my college degree using CLEP and everything else. I've been binge watching your videos after even though I subscribed a long time ago. I'm very impressed by you. Excellent job!

Wow, Nathan. Absolutely BRILLIANT! Thank you for sharing this valuable information!! Just researching how to get a bachelor's degree going this route... I'm a 49 yr old mom who has spent lots of $ on private Christian education for my 3 kids... wish I would have known for my oldest two children (2nd is almost done with college) Oh the $ we would have saved!!! Going to go through all your videos as I'm putting together a 'recipe' to pursue a degree. Also looking at this for my 15 yr old who will pursue computer science. Again, I appreciate your willingness to help... THANK YOU and God bless!! :)

That's awesome Angela! I'm from a family of 7 where only a couple of my siblings went to college - my parents made that special amount of money where no one goes hungry but you make too much for free rides and such, so I've been chasing better ways to do things like this for a long time. I'm glad these were helpful for you! Curious to hear any updates if you're still working on it!

Hey there! I'm seeing a lot of CLEP exams for general education requirements. I'm looking into getting a bachelors in Information Technology from Excelsior. How did you find exam for credit classes that were specifically relevant to your degree?
@NathanYoungLibrary
4 жыл бұрын
It's sort've a long video, but this one I did on putting together your own degree program walks through figuring out all the classes you need for your program, and then identifying which ones can be tested out of. kzitem.info/news/bejne/l62HwJN_p5eDhno (Watch it on 1.5 speed!) MOST tests are geared toward gen ed requirements, but especially for IT stuff, there are several tests that fit your degree specific requirements.

Great stuff man! for me VERY helpful and informative videos, Question, I have no transferable credits (i think) and very much so am inspired to take the same route you took. At the same college if possible, I'm 21, little cash flow, anyways any feedback or tips for someone like me? I would very much so appreciate any feed back and would certainly owe you one. Chase
@NathanYoungLibrary
7 жыл бұрын
Chase - first, you can do it. This whole process is sorta crap but, you can do it. Ok, if you're not sure if you have transferable credits, put together a list of the courses (AP highschool courses or ANY college Courses whatsoever) and pin em up. I'll look, and you should also talk to an adviser at the school you're looking into. FILE. YOUR. FAFSA. Even if you don't get anything, get that sucker filed. You might get something!! Watch most of my videos. That sounds super narcissistic but seriously - I'm 8 months into this thing which has covered over 2 years of a normal 4 year degree and I've documented all the steps I've taken, for you. I talk Financial aid, choosing your college, choosing your degree, putting together your degree program, and even finding transfer credits from tests, and life experience portfolios. Note anything you still feel lost about and I'll find some more answers for you. (Seriously) Don't feel like you have to do it faster than your budget will allow. A test is $100. You can test for A LOT of the credits you need. That's $30 per credit hour. If you have to pay for school at all, you cannot do better than that. You don't have to take a full course load - you can self study for 1 course at a time and just keep em rolling, one at a time. If you've got ANY time that you can't turn into money at a rate of $12 per hour, GO FOR SCHOLARSHIPS. Seriously, think of that as your job. Get good at finding and applying for scholarships. You'll get much better at writing while you're doing it, which is a nice skill to have as well. Ok, that's what I've got for now. Hit me back when you've got that list of potential credit or questions.

@NathanYoungLibrary
4 жыл бұрын
Do you mean "is it possible for a Spanish class to fulfill EITHER a language requirement, OR a culture requirement?" Or do you mean "can a Spanish class fill BOTH at the same time?" If you mean the first one, yes, sometimes one class can fill different requirements. If you mean the second one, no, a single course gets to fill a single slot. (Which is silly)

@@NathanYoungLibrary yessir. I know you must be super busy right now but I just wanted to ask you about gap years. So I’m at the end of my gap year “term” so to speak and I’ve started my application process. I’m the only person I know who’s done a gap year and is starting to apply now and I just have been having bouts of just general feelings of incompetence since all my friends right now are busy with their respective universities. And so I’ve just been really regretting not jumping into tertiary education right after school, just having to deal with being lonely in my endeavors while everyone else is studying in parallel to each other. Do you have anything to say about this “rut” that I’m sure many other people have also felt at the end of a gap year? Any tips or whatnot to possibly cultivate a more positive mindset in this situation?

Obviously best of luck Taylor! Over the years since I've done this I've realized two things: 1. I could definitely have used some editing help, this stuff could have been a lot shorter 2. Almost all of it holds water still (Ha!) So not a whole lot of explicit recommendations for economics degrees. Watch some Ray Dalio videos, be prepared to go "But that's totally NOT working right now?" a lot while you're learning, and check out the Dunning-Krueger effect and try your hardest not to fall prey to staying on mount stupid.
