This series and channel is going to be a godsend for me, I didn't take any filmmaking or media literacy classes in high school/college and it's something I regret. Thank you for making these!

you're welcome. One reason I do these is because, in educational institutions, video literary is not taught much or thoroughly, still

Thanks for making so many great videos. I believe a high-angle view of subjects can be more flattering and slimming too.

Gonna start learning how to read films and hopefully how to make them soon and this will be my guide. Analyzing films has always been difficult to me as I was feel like I’m missing something or maybe interpreting a shot or editing technique wrong. I get discouraged when I see video essayists do it so elegantly without any effort. Gonna be going to a film school in my capital city to learn production at the age of 22. Hopefully it’s not too late. Thanks for these videos

you're welcome. God bless you in your endeavor. Video-making is an essential skill in the digital world, and it will apply to many endeavors, not just movie-making. And we need great moviemakers still!

I have other videos on that. Go here and look for the "Basic Shots" section. All of the links take you back to a KZitem video. joshmatthews.org/learn-more-about-movies-a-short-video-course/

What are your recommended filmmaking books(cinematography, shots, sound, techniques, editing, ,etc.)?

for non movie-makers, which is most people, the textbooks do pretty well. They are better than typical textbooks. An old edition of Gianetti's "Understanding Movies" or Bordwell's Film Art will be cheap and pretty useful. Bordwell's more academic work is helpful, though those books are extremely expensive. The book "Listening to Movies" by Karlin isn't bad on sound. Yet there really hasn't been much study of sound, still, and frankly I would prefer to hear it rather than read about it. Which is why I hope that sound-in-movie experts start a great channel. (Maybe one already exists?) For filmmakers nothing beats video, the best medium for learning, as opposed to books, which are limited by being a different medium entirely. You probably know about the Studiobinder channel. There are a lot of those of similar or lesser quality. Does this help or not? There seem to be a thousand "How to Read a Film" books. The more interesting exercise in my mind is to watch through a filmmaker's entire corpus and read his autobio/biographies That to me is as instructive as anything on the process of creativity in film, which usually starts with reading widely and broad experience (since technical know-how is a bit easier to achieve for anybody, as is obvious since there are a thousand videomakers for every one inspired visionary).
