The American Academy of Pediatrics updated their breastfeeding and breastmilk feeding recommendations June of 2022. They changed the language of their previous statement (2012) to now they "support" breastfeeding until TWO years. There have been mixed responses to this update. Some have been elated with this new change, including myself, and others have been conflicted. Many have questions about what this means for their journey or what expectations of new parents are. Here, I explain why the AAP has made this change and what this means for breastfeeding and pumping families.
