I have a few lens with a min aperture lock. You need to set it for the camera to know it is at the min aperture and the camera to work. The lever is at 8 o'clock on the body.

Great video and very informative. Love my Nikon film and digital set ups and F Mount lenses.

Nikon kind of did well to keep the F mount alive for so long, but it does make the compatibility options complex. The mechanical-ness of the AI lens coupling was innovative, though. I'm still a little sad the second hand D34300 I bought doesn't like either my beautiful 24-50mm lens or the 70-300mm, though both work perfectly on my D70. I also remember when AF-S first appeared and they were very expensive lenses! I suspect Nikon found it cost too much to put the focus motor in the lens at first, hence they went with the screw drive mechanism.

There is a pretty big difference between AF-S and AF-P lenses. AF-P lenses are *completely* electronic, including the focus ring. If you take an AF-S lens in your hand and spin the focus ring, there will be a stop when it reaches 0 or infinity (or a little bit past it). As you spin the focus ring, you probably can see the lens elements inside shift position as the focus shifts. You don't get any of that with AF-P, because the focus ring and the focus mechanism is not mechanically coupled. With the AF-P lens unmounted, you can spin that focus ring as much as you like (no stops at all) and nothing will change with the lens, because it's not powered on by being mounted on the camera. Obviously this lens won't work with older Nikon DSLRs because they need to be able to talk electronically to the lens properly for everything including adjusting focus (which explains why some DSLRs needed a firmware update). Z mount lenses are the same tech, so all Z mount lenses are also AF-P lenses.

Monster Adapter released an adapter called LA-FE2 last November which supports screw-driven D lenses, it's just sad that it is for Sony E-mount. But eventually someone either Monster Adapter or Techart or even Nikon would release a FTZ adapter that supports D lenses.

They announced it and have that video of it working. I haven't seen it for sale yet but I really hope they make it in Z mount.

My next lens video (whenever that will be) will be lessons learnt from going long on lenses.

@@SprocketHoles Great idea!!! My lessons learned is that it is OK to use a AF-S 200-500mm f/5.6 as a Street Photography lens in Paris to make different ‘Street’ photographs, then the default 28mm/35mm/50mm lenses. Results can be seen on my website.

It is really a shame the F6 can't support E lenses.

Is the 105 2D DC significantly better than the 85 1.4D?
