This video was recorded by Richard Holmes in 1999 and is a great snapshot of what is lurking around the barrage. Seeing the numbers of fish held up there is both depressing and heartening. Depressing because the pass down there is obviously not fit for purpose and heartening because there are fish trying to get through. One of the weaknesses we have in finding a solution at the moment is the lack of evidence and data. How many fish are trying to get upstream and downstream? How many fish succeed? So many questions but nop resource available to answer them. The Trust is hoping to find some funding to take on a Phd student to carry out practical research on inward and outward migration of fish over all tide times, throughout the year and utilising all of the permutations of the barrage's operating potential.
