James Turrell’s celestial observatory is not his first brush with space. He played a small role in the making of Stanley Kubrick’s _2001: A Space Odyssey._ From PRI’s “American Icons: ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ - Part TWO” [originally aired 30 May 2019]: But back in the 1960s he [James Turrell] was a young pilot who often hung out at the Santa Monica Airport. [Stanley] Kubrick had rented a hangar there to do some of the visual effects for 2001 and Turrell was hired on to help. *TURRELL:* “I was pretty much starstruck, I have to tell you.” *KURT ANDERSEN:* “So tell me exactly…what was the work you did on the film.” *TURRELL:* “I pretty much was just a grunt, going to get stuff, doing whatever the odd thing I could do. So I couldn't believe he actually remembered my name when I was such a small part of what he was doing.That was the thing that impressed me the most.”

Can't everything with these documentaries at face value. Whomever writes them does once in a while present something as if it's an incontrovertible fact when that's not the case or, at the very least, the respective scientific community is still undecided about it.

Waldemar's documentary production company, ZZC Films creates the best documentary films. I wished he would stop praising the USA so much and stop calling the country 'America ... he could easily call Peru by the same name as it is in the continent of the Americas. Funny, I think Waldy here gives the U.S. a hard time, often siding with the loons who think Americans stole everything and bullies everyone. He even took a whizz near Mt. Rushmore since some Indian tribe did it in some weird protest. It’s strange that Americans don’t say “America” as much as people from elsewhere do. We usually say “the U.S.” or full “United States”, and the always popular “USA! USA! USA!” for just about any occasion there is.

Love all of Waldemar's videos - but disagree totally with the statement that the Inca carved and moved the pillow stones (known as Cyclopean stonework). The Inca were a bronze age civilization (bronze is 3/10 on a hardness scale), so carving massive granite blocks (6-7/10 on the same scale) simply wasn't possible! Also, trying to move 50-250 tonne granite blocks by the Incan method of transportation (llamas) just isn't likely to have happened either!
@anonagain
4 жыл бұрын
Those are common misconceptions based on a misunderstanding of what the Moh's scale (hardness) means, and assuming the ancients didn't understand 'mechanical advantage' (the use of pulleys, etc.) . You can find numerous videos showing people splitting granite, drilling holes in it, and polishing it all with simple copper tools. Likewise watch the videos of Wally Wallington to see one way of moving the huge blocks - he moves an entire barn singlehandedly, and erects a huge pillar by himself.
