That is also a common practice with companies. They put you through a temp agency to see how you are going to work out or they can just let you go if they don’t have enough work for you or they don’t like you. The temp agency has to deal with all the paperwork on letting you go. I hate the way they do this. It’s B.S. you would do better somewhere else. Stay strong!

No real employer is going to play games like that. Its a scam. Always remember that capitalists are liars just like that fat orange fuck, Trumpy. Employers in at will states can fire you for any reason. You have zero labor rights in these states and to get paid if they boss robs you you have to file with the NLRB (which is why Elon Musk is in bed with Trumpy, trying to overturn the NLRB). In the first 90 days you can be fired and not have any way to fight even an unreasonable firing. Anyone saying you gotta go through a temp to get a real job is just someone who wants to play games with you and export your labor below market prices and then fire you with no cause. Its a scam, dumbass. The depth the capitalists will go to rob you is beyond what you would even consider. They are scammers and con men.

New subscriber, 35 years old... dual citizen of USA/Portugal. Currently taking care of my mom with severe dementia here in Portugal and wish to return to the US. Ive done some Public Relations and Marketing work but ive been out of the game since the pandemic. Ive also just recently been diagnosed with Premature Coronary Artery disease. Im extremely concerned with my future. Wanted to potentially go into the Maritime trade but my condition makes that extremely unlikely. Jobs and stories like yours give me a little bit of hope... but I don't see much positive at the end of this very dark tunnel.

@@OldSoulMindSet Thanks so much man. The way you describe things should be AKA: Meeting a person face to face, giving them a chance. I really wish that was the way people still operated. I suspect that if that was still a thing, we wouldn't see all of these folks my age and younger that are unable to land a job even with a masters degree. Its all online algorithms, A.I and temp companies as you describe. The individual has been completely ignored. Please keep up the great content!

Good for you for pushing back on the shady temp agency and their so called associates jerking you around. It's not going to get better with that company, you are getting a taste how they operate. Once they got you on board, the mind games will continue.

It's not totally unusual. I worked for a machine shop in Florida that ran all of their employees through a temp service. The advantage is that the temp company handles all of payroll, workman's comp, etc. But they should have been up front about it.

Right, some companies do that for sure, i just thought is was something that should have been discussed with me instead of out of the blue being called by a agency that I had no clue would be involved with my employment process.

This is the way companies do business nowadays. Not ALL, but the company I worked for (I retired almost two years ago) relied heavily on temporary service companies for most of the people they hired, but not exclusively. I can tell you that I know for a fact that if they did want to hire someone who wasn't currently with the temp agency, like possibly an employee's son or daughter who would want to come on in an entry level job (everyone hired had to get past a probationary period) that they'd have to go to the temp agency we used and sign up with them first, and then they'd be sent out to us. I think it's pretty much how a LOT of companies do it now, but still this company should have told you that up front. BTW, you have a fantastic way of relaying a story, and I found it quite relaxing listening to it. Maybe it was you fishing during it, but very relaxing. Best of luck John. Cleveland here.

The worst line a company can use in an interview; “we treat our employees like family”. It’s a BS line that every single employer uses.

I don't need a company to be especially personable for me to work for them, but they are straight up giving you the runaround. The first guy being young and maybe jumping the gun, okay, I can chalk that up to his inexperience, honest mistake but NOT good business. The temp agency and different pay that what was discusses, nah. It's a red flag for sure. If you wanted, you could call them up and give them an opportunity to fix it, but I would be wary. The state job will take forever to start.
@OldSoulMindSet

@justinkase1360 They actually called and apologized to me for not being upfront about the temp agencies which was a very personable filling call , he was genuine in his call and we reached a deal at the original pay rate and benefits that was initially discussed so it all worked out and I'm now employed with them. You are right about the state, it's a long process and I went to check the status of my application yesterday only to find that they denied my application saying I was under qualified which is comical to me because I have over 30 years of experience in the position that they are hiring for.

That's an interesting scenario. If they would have handled that differently it might be a good situation to feel out the job and get paid something for those first months then get bumped up in pay as originally offered if you should decide you want to work there but that was a whole mess what they did there and while being rude about it. I wouldn't feel good about it either

I agree ... very interesting scenario, very unorthodox in my opinion , I just got a phone call from the President and he is now offering me the full agreement of the $32 and benefits that he had originally shock hands on , I am now officially employed , I take my pulmonary fit test on Monday and start work Tuesday. Everything is working out finally.
