Got it... I would definitely choose Pyotr Tchaikovsky as Nr. 1, although I admire Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy very much. But in the case of the Violin concerto, I am pretty decided for PT. I usually don't watch this selections, but this, on the violin concertos was right on. I understand your dilemma between the Tchaikovsky and the Mendelsohn concertos. Hard to pick one or the other. I thought of it when you made the comment about 1b and 1a. Although very similar, both very different ,Tchaikovsky's in D Major and Mendelsohn's in E Minor . Both introduce a solo for violin in the 1st movement. Tchaikovsky's a more difficult solo than Mendelsohn's, but then Mendelsohn composed his in the late 1830s early 1840s, Tchaikovsky composed his in the late 1870s. Perhaps he was inspired by Mendelsohn's solo and a added a grade of complexity.

Glad to see you back, Kim. Now, where have I heard that melody from the Paganini??? :) I especially like the Bach - a melody he used in at least a couple of other pieces. And I think I prefer the Mendelssohn to The Tchaikovsky, but I'd need to listen more. Despite my love for the Romantic era Russians, I think Tchaikovsky gets a bit melodramatic at times.
@MelodiousHeart1

The Paganini's No. 2, Movement 3 was arranged for a piano by Liszt, titled "La Campanella", which I'm sure you are very familiar with. I have read some people mentioning that Tchaikovsky's music is a bit melodramatic at times, but I don't mind the melodramatic side of his music at all, I just absolutely love all the beautiful melodies he wrote. Thank you so much for the always insightful comment, Michael. Your comments are very appreciated!
@ExSkyCyclePilot

@@MelodiousHeart1 La Campanella! Of course! I was also thinking Rachmaninoff alluded to that melody in his Paganini Rhapsody, but that was a different melody. And I do love Tchaikovsky's melodies, too, but I think he sometimes lacks the depth and complexity of some of the other romantic era composers. On the other hand, no one wrote music as accessible. His compositions are just so easy to listen to, especially when compared to the works of composers like Bartok, Prokofiev, Shostakovitch, etc.
