It feels like this is also reinforcing stereotypes of what it means to be gay. You don’t have to like drag or be super feminine to be part of the community either. Being masculine isn’t always necessarily self hatred. Some people are genuinely masculine and that’s fine too.

@AnimeZakku
4 жыл бұрын
Yeah the way they were saying it didn’t come off right. It did sounded like they were saying all gay guys are feminine and they are only pretending to be super masculine. But that wasn’t the point they were trying to make. For me as a gay guy I don’t have any problems with feminine guys, cross dressing, drag, or drag race. But as a person who doesn’t like game shows I don’t enjoy drag race. For me it doesn’t show the true abilities of the artist like every other game show. For example I hate cooking game shows. Because the chiefs on the show could do way better if they had more time to do food right than rush it. It’s the same with drag like yeah it’s great that you can get shit done fast but true art takes time. Dating wise for me I really don’t want to date a super feminine man but that doesn’t mean I want to date a super masculine one ether. I would want to date someone who is in the middle of the Spectrum or one that leans towards more masculine and that’s just me. Doesn’t mean I hate feminine guys it’s just not my preference. Like there is toxic masculinity but there’s also toxic femininity. Like I wouldn’t date a guy who is a “masc4masc” but I wouldn’t date a super feminine guy ether because just how a super masculine gay guy exhibits toxic masculine behaviors a super feminine gay guy exhibit toxic feminine behavior. Like they are sometimes like Regina George from Mean Girls just like masc gays are like a stereo typical Jock. And the reason why I want somebody in between the spectrum or more masculine is because I want somebody to protect me to be more “a man”. And if that makes me homophobic I don’t know what to tell you. Yes I’m a person who likes to sing the girl parts to songs, feels like a girl when I dance, shake his ass, and likes to wear girl clothes that might pass for guy clothes. I don’t even has a preferred body type I like I love all men body types except for super super skinny guys or morbidly obese like 350+. What gets me is a good face (a plus if you have a mustache or facial hair). Femininity doesn’t scare me but that’s not what I want solely in a guy I want the masculine aspects too. Yes I want him to be in touch of his feminine side but I don’t want that to be the only part he’s in touch with. For me I selflessly want to be the weaker one that needs protecting. Not saying that I want to be a weak person that I want to have a strong number two. Just don’t judge me for that. I honestly don’t really care what people do as long as it makes them happy and it doesn’t hurt anybody, anything, or themselves. Yeah sometimes I judge quickly but I have to remind myself it’s there lives and it really doesn’t effect me.

Totally agree. I've internalized homophobic responses to overtly gay men even though I'm gay, I grew up around strictly straight dudes and lesbians. This translates to me not being sexually active, and dating a "bisexual" guy for 8 years - yea, he was a straight guy that I harassed into being a reluctant bottom. I know its a bad look, but Jesus I'm 35 and it feels too late to change any of it. I really don't like how uncomfortable other obviously gay men make me - it makes me feel fucking stupid. I wanna address it but I genuinely don't know what to do about it.

As a bisexual woman, I was yelling, "Oh Honey, they're so much worse!" I used to work at Disneyland, and on Gay Days when a bunch of LGBT folks go to Disneyland wearing red shirts, I literally would have men come and buy a ridiculously expensive shirt from the store I worked at because they showed up in a red shirt with their wife and wanted to make sure that people didn't think they were gay. @@am-zj4mq a large factor for why any cis man, regardless of sexual orientation, would have toxic masculinity would be that they think they have to, because they think being feminine is wrong, or less than to masculine. That is how their misogyny shows
@mfenn7325
4 жыл бұрын
@@mollis377 Well put. When you see “feminine” traits as lesser than, you fight to maintain your masculinity (the “greater” set of traits). Remember, for many they can only see this as a binary too. We’re all a mix of these traits, but acknowledging this, for them, is a challenge to their “superiority” as men. Hence it’s linked with ingrained misogyny. Of note, most cis men won’t even realize this misogyny because it’s unconscious usually (we ALL have unconscious misogyny to work on). But sexual interest in women and loving your mom isn’t the same as liking womankind.
@hermit7903
3 жыл бұрын
It is not rooted in mysogyny. It is the animal fear of looking weak in the eyes of other predators. The male gender has had to deal with hunting and war. Fragile masculinity is rooted in the ever present threat of violence.

Mike Girard in my experience i think that you can see everything you need about how masc-presenting someone is from their photo, and taking the "masc 4 masc" step means "I want you to behave a certain way", which is where my problem with it comes in. Perhaps these comedy discussions don't hit exactly the correct notes for a political statement, but "full of shit" suggests it's a sensitive issue here. I'm glad at least it's a long time since I've seen people complain "hot, but when they open their mouth, a purse falls out" though.

@Don K I am attractive according to the current standards of beauty. I still struggle a lot. In part because guys only want to have sex with me, and in part because I’m an immigrant and my culture is very different from the place I live in which makes it a little hard to connect (also guys see me as an exotic thing which works if all you want is sex, but not if you’re looking for something serios ). Superficiality is something that characterizes the gay community... I guess that if you’re a good looking piece of meet with no personality it’s easy to date since you can settle for a superficial man (?) but if you’re good looking and smart/interesting then you’re screwed
