Alot of hispanics who came to union city dirt poor in 80s/90s really rose in economic status since now that they are trying to build expensive condos everywhere the homes they bought have gone up a ton in value

I lived in Union city from 1994 to 2019, now I live in Miami, before the union city was of more Cubans and we have been moving to other nearby cities or Florida. Goodbye to the cold never again,I finished my cycle in the north 25 years was enough, I know that city like the back of my hand and all the others in the area, I arrived at that city with 22 years and left with 47 years. many stories and nostalgia I will always carry.

There aren't many Cubans left in Union City/West New York neighborhoods. Most of the Cubans (older generation) left to Miami, or are in subsidized housing. The younger generations moved to the suburbs in like Ridgefield, Englewood Cliff, Franklin Lakes, ect.

The NE area is a community. I’m from New York and it was great growing up there, very family oriented. In Florida everyone is a transit. It wasn’t ever grimy there, however winters suck, glad you guys are enjoying it.

Nice video. I grew up in Union City in the 50's and 60's. I moved away in the early 70's but my parents lived in UC and North Bergen years after I left. It was the best place to grow up and had a small town feel in a big metro area. UC became popular with the Cuban population after I left but I remember reading once there were more Cuban's living in UC pers square mile than in Havana! So many memories from growing up there. You could walk anywher and take a quick bus ride to New York City. Life was good then!!

It was beautiful to see the 40th to 49th street areas though real nice out there I live in florida know no community out here like up there.

Jose if your fam had come to union city i bet you wouldve better of than in kentucky. Someone from UC once told me they identify as latinx cuz they all mixed and realize theyre from same place, going thru same thing so they actually try to help their own. They refer to “latino” as older generation who try to take advantage and compete with each other.

I grew up in Union City when I arrived in NJ, 1980, then moved to West New York, live in Texas now. Union City is not the same in so many ways, many or most of you have no idea. From Germans and Italians 50's, Cubans after 1959, today mainly hispanics from different countries. Adios
