I grew up near this, sub. It's the old Pacific Electric Torrance/Redondo Beach sector. The lumber yard is on the line that ran to Redondo. Thanks for posting. I remember the wig wag signals. There used to be more on the branch.

The Raton Sub in either NM or CO have a handful of Wigwags. Along with semaphore signals, jointed rail, and the old pole lines. All still left from the Santa Fe era, BNSF abandoned the line a few years back, leaving only Amtrak to maintain and operate the track. Lately the states of CO and NM have set aside funding to preserve the line since it has a decent amount of historical significance.

I think the Metro Blue Line should have 2 wig wags acting as cantilever guards at the Spring Street crossing in Long Beach. Think about it. The six modern day guards (+ the new ped gates that are being installed as we speak) and 2 wig wags over head using LED lights and a GS Type 2 E-bell.

I remember the GenSets when they were new and clean, no graffiti at all. Didn’t stay that way for long though. Do they park those things unattended at J yard? That would probably explain it

I am guilty of a thought crime, if one of those wigwag's disappears overnight, I should be the prime suspect. I'm thinking that the crew stopped to eat at Pit Burger (166th & Normandie). I'm salivating right now thinking of a Double Teriyaki burger. Yummm

So no class I continues to have switchmen board on the fly, but they allow walking across the boards on the end of a car while in motion? If anyone has seen the ATSF "count the seconds" video you would know that switchmen can hop on safely while a train is moving. I'm just wondering if they need to walk the train across the crossing because I know the G&U expects people to just observe and stop although this may only be a Massachusetts thing.

Where does UP park these locomotives, in the middle of gang territory that is near a paint supply warehouse..? 😠 In Houston, TX, out of service locomotives usually parked at Settgast Yd (Former HB&T and MP), behind high razor wire topped fences at the engine shop's.! 😠
