How chilled are these pilots? Like to be flying with these guys - completely relaxed but don't miss a trick.

That's one hell of a cool video. Your plane was probably pretty close to Max TakeOff Weight (MTOW (875,000 lbs)) to use up the entire runway. thanks for posting this.

great footage. they really did use the entire runway. VERY HEAVY and a shallow climb out angle. saw many of these Pacific Ocean departures. the right turn can be seen at the end. standard SID for 16R.

jleeeeee I love both of these videos, especially the take off. The pilots comments are great. I posted the landing on my FB page to show people a proper approach onto 28L in SFO.

@b747power Not even close. They were up in the air well before the end. And the plane is heavy, so maximum runway usage is usually allowed. San Francisco-Sydney is almost at the 747-400's maximum range and usually payload as well. Using more runway on takeoff ultimately increases the plane's lifespan.

No, for several reasons. Number one, once you get something that heavy moving over 100 mph, and it does take some time and distance for something that big to get to up to speed like that, it's hard to slow down. there is a certain speed usually that the plane has to reach before the takeoff roll should be rejected or not. The other reason is to save as much fuel as possible...you have a long runway, why not use as much of it as you can.

@bphendri Actually V2 is the t/o safety speed--at which the plane may climb with one inoperative engine.

Ha, supposedly V1 is the decision speed to which the aircraft still has enough runway to stop. This flight might've been the exception! The end of the runway came up pretty quick after rotation! Can't beat those heavy -400's.

Typical takeoff roll for a heavyweight takeoff back to SFO or LAX-875,000 lbs max, about 13 hours flying time.

Sorry bloke The U.S. company Chalks International was flying to the bahamas from Florida in 1919. Qantas didnt fly to singapore untill 1935. Doesnt Qantas buy planes from U.S. companies and when is Qantas going to become global and fly into Mexico?
@AUmarcus

Ahem!! Excuse me? Qantas was one of first airlines on the planet to fly internationally, second only to KLM by two days and before any American airline.

At V1, could you have realistically aborted the takeoff and safely stopped? You looked so close to the end of the runway even at V1........
