Hi Coding Club. Thank you so much for this, it's been a huge learning. I have an issue with the Lives part. It says on the bottom of the page "The type or namespace name 'Text' could not be found" as an error and where you say for us to drag the lives Text on the GameManager script at the Inspector part, mine doesn't show "Lives Text" there. Only shows Script and 3 Lives. Am I being clear? How can I fix this?

For the text you need to add at the very top of your code outside of the class. using UnityEngine.UI; This adds in the UI classes to make them available to you. Such as the Text class :)

You can add to the end to each Input.GetKey(KeyCode.”horizDirection”Arrow) Input.”right Arrow code” && transform.position.x < 8) Input.”left Arrow code” && transform.position.x > -8) Input.”up Arrow code” && transform.position.y < 8) Input.”down Arrow code” && transform.position.y > -8) This will make you able to move right until you reach 8(you can adjust based off your screen size). Move left until your reach -8 and same for up and down

In your fireEnemyProjectile() method, the second number in the Random.Range(0f, 1500f), increase whatever is in that 1500f location to decrease frequency of firing

Vector2 would work fine. It just automatically makes the z-value 0. I use Vector3 because eventually we will be moving to 3D games and just a little familiarity with the z value doesn’t hurt anything.

Hey Coding Club, I find your videos very helpful, however I have an issue. When I write in the code for the projectile to fire wherever the player is, the projectile just spawns in the middle of the screen whenever I press space. It just seems to be ignoring the code to spawn on the player. Do you have any solutions to fix this?

Look at 22:00 in the video. I change where we instantiate the projectile from “0,0,0” which would be the center of the screen to “player.transform.position.x, player.transform.position.y, 0” which is where we change the position of the projectile to where the players x and y is located in the game. That should fix your issue as long as you have dragged the player game object into that place in Unity as well. Please let me know if you have further issues but that should fix your problem.

I’d have to see the code to know for sure. When you have the Input.GetKeyDown(KeyCode.Space) are you instantiating more than once somewhere? Or are you instantiating the projectile anywhere else in your code?

At around 41:00 I instantiate the enemy projectile. Make sure the Vector3 is at the enemy.transform.position.x and enemy.transform.position.y. Otherwise just make sure your enemy prefab has been assigned to the game object in your enemy projectile

In Unity, not in the VS code editor, did you add your script as a Players component? That needs to be done. If that doesn’t work you may need to drag the Player in to assign it as a Game Object

@@CodingClub Thanks for responding! I was able to fix it and I do believe it was from not having the player assigned to the object in unity. Now my setback is with the laser following my player. I have the laser assigned as the object and everything. Just seems to stay right where my ship started

@22:05 the projectile is created. It shouldn’t follow you after it is created because the only code in the Projectile class would be moving forward towards the enemy. You should only access the players location when adding in the projectile

@@CodingClub I worded that poorly. Whenever space bar is pressed the laser is created, but it is only created where my player was first spawned at. So if I move itll create the laser. Just not infront of my player.

When you add your projectile, what is your ‘new Vector3’? It should be. projectileClone = Instantiate(projectile, new Vector3(player.transform.position.x, player.transform.position.y - 0.3f, 0), player.transform.rotation) as GameObject; This should instantiate the projectile at the location of the players x-value and just in front of the players y-value. Let me know if you have any other questions!
