Stayed with parents an "extra" 4 years during college attending a local university, saved money on room, board, and food while studying computer science. Burned calories and stayed healthy walking and biking to and around campus. Graduated last year with internship experience and began work in software making ~65k. Was just promoted to a more senior position and have been upgraded to >100k. My degree cost me less than $20000. I don't know why "independence" from one's own family is so sought after by children in the US, but I knew it wasn't for me. Now I'm happy to pay it forward and help my parents in their retirement!

It’s definitely only an American thing. For some reason kids are embarrassed to stay with their parents and look after their parents in old age, and would rather just ship them off to a nursing home and visit them once a year, maybe twice a year. It’s as if their parents just shipped them off to a nursery for the first 18 years of their lives instead of actually loving them and nurturing them and feeding them and taking care of them. It makes no sense.

My first 2 years of college I was at a dorm 2 hours from my house... tons of drinking and piping. The next 2.5 years (I transferred so I had to take some extra classes) I was at home. My fraternity was down the street, so parties were good but not having my own place to bring girls sucked. Sure I could go to the girl's room or house, but it wasnt the same, just wasn't as fun as being in a dorm... I miss college. 😢

These are all majors that have existed for a very long time and lead to real jobs, are important in society (its harder to get a job in psychology only because of how many ppl only take it as undergraduate & how many clinical psych majors there are, and the path to a solid job in Journalism is tougher but it doesn't make it any less of a real major). Idk much about what someone could do with political science and museum studies sounds like a cool but super niche thing with hardly a spot on the job market so although perhaps not as good to major in, they're still real majors not some gender study bs.
