Good question my friend. I love mine. I will eventually buy an Indian, but i will keep this one. Too much fun to drive..... One hell of a bike no matter what people think.... Cheers!

The proven extra hp came from the Gman's bigger than stock air manifolds, power commander v and TRE to give it a little more hit at 1st & 2nd gear. I got her up to 120mph down a long road and I weigh over 250lbs so someone weighing less would have no problem.

@blueskyb2t Yes keep it, I regret trading my M90 just to get value on a new machine. I will someday get another one.

Gman's site list 78HP. / 98TQ with aftermarket pipes. Seems your missing quite a bit of torque.

Yeah the torque was missing from the bottom because I kept the stock pipes on for looks and opened up the ends for more sound. The mid-range was a big hit after 5,000.

The stock HP & torque figures are disappointing compared to the tune of the M109, given the capacity. But they are actually designed for completely different purposes, though the look is identical. The M109 is a true muscle bike, with a much higher rev ceiling, very over square cylinders, 123mm bore 90mm stroke & higher compression. Which is why it almost doubles the HP & adds almost 40ft/lbs to the torque peak of the M90. But the M90 engine is soft & low revving, with under square cylinders of 96 bore & 101 stroke, & designed to pull very long gearing indeed. Using a gear calculator, it's easy to understand why the two engines feel, & are designed so differently. M90; 1st; 10.6 mph per 1000. 2nd; 16.64 mph/1000. 3rd; 22.34 mph/1000 (1:1) 4th (overdrive) 26.5 mph/1000. 5th (overdrive) 29.47 mph/1000. At 4000 rpm, where the engine is at the end of its sustained torque curve from its peak @ 2800, & developing 60bhp, the engine is pulling 118 mph. Even changing down into 4th to get the engine closer to its 4800 power peak, (4th=4453rpm @ 118) you aren't going to see higher speeds from just 66 bhp in a bike this heavy with the aerodynamics of a parachute. The M109 is designed to rev, (relatively to its big twin capacity anyway) & pulls shorter gearing because it's designed specifically for point & squirt. To give some idea of the difference in engine characteristics, the M90 would theoretically pull 142 mph @4800 in its double overdrive top - if it had the power. If the M109 were given that monstrous gearing, it would have to pull 183 mph at its higher power peak of 6200! - The M109 might pull 138, possibly.. but it needs 50% higher revs, shorter gearing & nearly double the HP of the M90 to achieve that extra 20 mph at the top. If that extra acceleration & 20 mph at the top is REALLY important to you, then get the M109, it really isn't worth the effort & expense trying to make the M90 produce another 10 HP.
