You are excellent with animals! But from watching your videos your real secret is your skill with people is just as good. Watching Tom praise the dog owners OR random team members or construction crew members is what really sets him apart! The NBD members videos show so much more interaction with both the owners and the dogs and it is REALLY cool to see people's self confidence go up as he praises them for progress....most people are good at one or the other being excellent at both sets you apart. I really respect your attention to the entirety of your craft Tom! Thanks!

Tom, I would like to once again thank you big time for sharing your talent with the world. It's absolutely entertaining, beautifully shot and full of useful knowledge. Makes me happy watching you grown so much over the years. The academy looks so cool. What's interesting, during trainings you often refer to raising kids and I am a midwife and I refer to training dogs while teaching parents. Newborns and youngsters are so alike dogs in many ways- very instinctual, so much in need of boundaries and confident guidance. I love the fact that different professions can relay on similar experiences and insights. We share the same amount respect for our proteges and I believe it is foundation in what we do. Probably that's what attracts me the most in your videos. Best of luck to you and keep up the good work for people on the other side of the globe hungry of what you do. Lot's of love!

So many behaviors of my pug/shitzu mix have changed just since popping her leash on a slip leash. She now comes in the backyard while barking at someone!!! Mind blowing! She also went from being timid meeting other dogs to sniffing their bottoms instead of noses and starts to play with them! She also greets people instead of jumping back or hiding behind me. She also no longer pulls on walks but still does when over excited like going into a pet store or walking downtown where lots of dog smells are. I’m going to get the 2.25 prong collar. The bigger one never fit her right. I can’t believe she’s the same dog!

I'm training my dog to be a service dog. She is a 9mo husky mix. Before she used to have the instinct to rip my arm off on walks and pull me everywhere. I started using the slip leash and techniques in this video and its helped a lot. I definitely still have to work on my training mechanisms in order to really catch the behavior, but so far everything is looking good! Hopefully in a couple months my dog will have a good general heel and recall. Thank you so much for the videos!!!

yeah, I visit a Siberian Husky and Lab/Husky/shepherd mix a couple times a month so I find these videos really informative. When I do go to visit these doggos, i try and make the most of my time and teach them important commands that will help them be better pets. I don’t have any dogs of my own, but I do hope to get one in the future, possibly a husky, but I’m leaning toward a pitbull terrier type. Huskies are great, they’re just like any other working breed, you have to give them a “job” or else they’ll go nuts. And like any other dog, they want to make their owner happy

What tools would you suggest for a dog that is afraid of going outside, pulls heavily back to the house and will not stay on one side of you? I've taught him Sit, Lay stay so he can learn but he gets into stuff all the time/chews on stuff (boredom) and is seemingly afraid of outside. Isn't capturing when a behaviour is "captured" by the trainer and then marked, either operantly or classicaly? So say you've loaded Yes or a clicker and the dog walks over a "place" the trainer can capture the behaviour by marking with YES, "Place" or click "Place".

So what do you recommend for those countries that have outlawed prongs and shock/ecollars? Also, do you ever wean them off of the the prong, especially for those people who want to compete with their dogs, since they're not allowed in the obedience rings?

Question if anyone can help. I have a 7 month old Aussie. Been working on obedience (loose leash, place, heal, sit etc.) He is fairly well behaved (doesnt jump on people or knip) but he has two speeds, sleep and play. He literally will not just lay down and chill. We play/walk for an hour in the morning, noon'ish, and end our day with an hour of fetch and a 1 mile hike or so. I do on lead drills just like this channel has shown us to do during those times w play. Any suggestions on how to get a dog to be more chill in between activities?

I'd definitely recommend training the 'place' command! Such a game changer for me and my pup - gives the dog something to do/a place to be. A great tool for when you do something in another room, need to go get the mail, go cook in the kitchen, etc.
@rhegafd
2 жыл бұрын
@@TPinesGold I definitely will look into that. This morning after reading your post I combined fetch with place, sit, and stay. It was amazing! He was firing on all cylinders and absolutely looked more happy then usual when exercising. I really appreciate your advice and explanations. If you have a good resource on the above activities (examples of combining the two) I would really appreciate it. I will be researching this on my own of course.
