In this video, which is a comical story, I show you how to remove a stubborn seized up Shimano cassette lockring on a bicycle. It's not the most glorious way to remove one, but this will work most definitely.
Long story short... I bought this Ghost bicycle a few years ago, and I like it a lot. I assembled most of the parts except for the wheels and the the gears. Unfortunately, after laying it down on the derailleur side, don't worry it was not too horrible of an accident, I needed to replace the derailleur. This I did without an issue. I also replace the chain because it was a very worn out. Lastly, I wanted to replace or clean the axel and bearings in the rear hub because the bike wasn't rolling like it used to. So to the end, I had major trouble trying to get the lock ring off and even the bike shop expert guys couldn't get the lock un-seized.
Which leaves me to the video I have created. In the video you will see how I was able to unlock the lockring from the Shimano 8 speed cassette. It is super easy once the cassette is not able to spin, so you can focus on the turning the lockring. So cheers to the this strategy and quick thinking which saved my loads of money on buying a new wheel. ;)
