Hello Kevin! I'm a 17 year old guy who's been classically trained in vocals. Got myself a guitar last year, and I instantly started learning pieces from Polyphia, Malmsteen, Vai and Guthrie. I paid absolutely no heed to learning any type of theory, and I could only shred through about a dozen songs I learnt and nothing more. Your and Bernth's lessons over the last week have instantly improved my ability to improvise, and have taught me a bunch of theory that I was applying without realizing (for example, Guthrie uses D# Minor 7 in the chord progression of his piece "Waves".) I thank you immensely for not locking this trove of pure knowledge behind a paywall. I would not even consider going through these lessons without them being recommended for free by KZitem... I wish with all my heart that you become successful as a teacher to us students. If I ever actually get any good at guitar, I'll always credit you as my teacher.

You explain this stuff better than anyone else on this platform, seriously good work. Also the fact you explained that you didn’t only mean the C major scale, but all of them work is something I know but to someone as a beginner would likely be very confused. It’s great how you spotted that and clarified, those are common mistakes that a lot of “teachers” on this platform make.

Love this video! Everyone always just shows chord shapes, and that's it, but you showed how to use them. Love your videos, man. One of the greatest guitar teachers here on KZitem, I'll always remember you by using what you taught. Thanks man!

Anyone watching this, take this from some rando who's played guitar for a long time, these video tutorials are top notch. I was lucky enough to have a teacher back in 2001 who broke it down this way, but there weren't many back then. If I could teach for shit, this is exactly how I'd do it. But I can't, so thank God there's Kevin and YT.

I love your videos! Try manual focus on the camera. Maybe a smaller aperture so it doesn't suddenly jump out of focus. Cameras are too smart for their own good sometimes.

I am now a subscriber to your videos. You have a good on screen presence, and a wonderful delivery. Your vlogs are open and welcoming. No arrogance or pretension. One suggestion I have follows the daily contact with your instrument. Inertia is difficult to overcome, plus one needs daily contact to prevent one day off turning into two days, then three days etc. You could record two or three days' instruction all in one day. Then, chop them up to be viewed seriatim in 15 or 20 minutes sessions; to be watched each day your subscribers. You can also supplement this programing with your regular videos. It probably sounds like too much work for you. I haven't yet looked at your home page; do you have a pay plan, also? Thanks for your hard work!

11:07 but how can I build a seventh chord if the pentatonic scale has only 5 notes?
@kevinnickens
8 ай бұрын
You have to use the major scale, which is a diatonic scale. It has 7 notes instead of 5. All scales, including the pentatonic scale are based on the major scale

Hey Kevin, but when I’m in the key of Bb, I can’t use Fmaj7 in place of the F chord. When I was looking up the chords and notes in the key of Bb, I observed that the Fmaj7 chord has an E whereas the the notes in the key has an Eb. Therefore when I play the Fmaj7 it sound weird and I have to play an F7 instead. Is my understanding correct?
@kevinnickens

Yes. In the key of Bb major, F7 should be played instead of Fmaj7. Well done!
