Not everyone can have the choice ; some people are tied to their beds in psychiatric institutions. The only way is through Jesus, only him can heal people from their demons. Unfortunately, Lauren (author of this channel) will most probably keep on hearing voices and have hallucinations like she had when she was on meds (antipsychotics) even though it's probably better for her that she stopped those horrible drugs ; she will still hear the voices because the voices are from demonic entities and only prayers and acceptance of Jesus as your Lord and Savior can change that.

@@SaraWinger-ct8hr - 9 months is NOT long in the journey of someone with Bipolar or Schizophrenia. I agree that it is very important for Lauren to share her experiences and spread awareness over potential future options for people, but 9 months on a medication, on a diet, on a lifestyle modification is not a significant amount of time when it comes to episodic and chronic mental illnesses. I have high hopes for Lauren's journey, but it would be ill-informed to assume that 9 months is indicative of long-term wellness. A lot of people with Bipolar disorder can go multiple years with minimal to no symptoms before having another episode.

His work is so important his former university keeps an entire archive on it. As promised and take it all for it's worth and a grain of salt, blah blah blah, but here it is. The keto diet has been a real gamechanger in my life. But the best advice I ever got, that transformed the life of my wife and mother was from William Osler who said: “Let the old men read the new books; you students should read the journals, and the old books”. About 8 years into my wife’s battle with bipolar and 42 into my mother's war with schizophrenia I went down to the State Library and ordered in a copy of Kraepelin’s textbook. What I read in it would change my life and the lives of my entire family. I wasted almost a decade using the internet as a research tool and found better advice in a work written over a century ago. Anyway, here is what I’m talking about. In the 1970s two giants in the field, Michael Alan Taylor and Richard Abrams, shock docs, undertook a survey on the prevalence of catatonia. They found that it was common in manic depressive illness (bipolar) and uncommon in pure schizophrenia. As of the DSM V their opinions and those of Fink and many others finally led to the removal of catatonia as a subtype of schizophrenia. This is just the tip of the iceberg but it's a start. Here are some papers on the subject: sci-hub.se/10.1093/schbul/sbp059 sci-hub.se/10.1001/archpsyc.1977.01770220105012 On a slightly different note, here is another classic paper and what I consider to be the most important paper in the history of psychiatry. Contained within this otherwise unremarkable epidemiological review is plain empathetic language about what drugs actually do, their limitiations and the best explanation I read to date about whats gone wrong in modern treatment: sci-hub.se/10.1055/s-2007-1019628

I am so happy to see you are doing so well. I also was diagnosed schizoaffective and a lot of other issues were at play rather than just accepting it as a chronic illness. Having said that, I hope you do keep in mind you carry that vulnarability with you. I didn't have symptoms for years and went into psychosis in just a few days after something very stressful and traumatic happened. I hope you keep up this good energy but my point is to always have a lifeline ready, just in case. You don't want to need it, but you definitely don't want to be in a situation where you need it and don't have it.

Very wise advice. I agree, having had 1 psychotic episode that went below the radar and a worse one 20 years later. I almost wish that had gone unmedicated too, because of the lasting impact of 'treatment'. I had a near-miss another decade later, that was caught in time with no treatment needed. All that was needed was a relative being alert to the signs, and giving me an organised 'to do' list for 24hrs when I had disordered thoughts. Instead of telling me to behave like an adult as though I was well. People don't expect you to continue responsibilities when you have an acute physical illness episode, so why is it assumed for mental illness? Prepare a Wellness Action Plan, keep it up to date, and have it handy.

My sister who is 58, started with psychosis 6 months ago. She was in hospital for 3 months then got kicked out n sent home. I left my 3 kids in France to go live with her for 8 weeks during summer. In 6 months of illness, none of her anti psychotic meds or anti depressive meds or anti anxiety meds have worked..😮 She is now living alone, isolated in paranoia, not taking her meds or leaving her home. The local mental health team don't even visit since I left. She has no social worker or home help as the MH team never put them in place. She isn't eating, just living off the k8ndness of neighbours who take her meals. It's absolutely shocking how patients are simply 'dumped' at home with no support. I honestly believe that she will end her life soon, the voices are telling her to do that everyday. She originally got sectioned into the Psych unit as she went to throw herself off a bridge over the train track. I understand now why so many homeless people have mental health, they are literally ignored by doctors and eventually family and friends who find it too hard to cope with.

I'm so proud of you, Lauren! I know from my own experience how kind of scary it is to take the last dose. I had such bad side effects from small doses of antipsychotics and even antidepressants that my last psychiatrist actually said I was so sensitive, if I can manage my symptoms without medication, I shouldn't even try any new ones. When life throws a lot at me, my symptoms do return, but so far I've been able to use coping strategies that work well enough that I haven't needed to go back on meds. They were a lifesaver, though, when i needed them! I guess what I'm trying to say is that meds are one tool that can be used when needed. Some people definitely need to be on meds all of the time, and other people don't. Wouldn't it be cool if we had some way to test for that, rather than just trial and error?

thank you so much for this. i vividly remember stumbling across your channel, seeing your struggle with medication, and sharing how i was able to over come what i was going through without medical intervention; just proper nutrients, rest, and a lot of loving support from family. it's been an absolute joy watching your journey. now excuse me while i watch the rest of this and bawl my eyes out lol.

Yeah and some of those professionals are Medical Doctors who specialize in psychiatry. People need to let her doctor do what he or she is good at doing and stop making waves about it.

Really beautiful declaration in the last 6 or 7 minutes. Yes, I also understand that this vlog that was/is a home to many who suffer from schizophrenia or schizoaffectve disorder seems to change now. It is good and lovely that you expressed your continuous support.

Congratulations Lauren!! Your sucess isn't just that you have come off medication, that's just a bonus. I see your sucess as documenting your journey with a character of integrity. What I love about your channel is your willingness to face reality directly, honestly and grow in ways that seek the truth and use emotional intellegence to handle all the obsticles the come in the way. You're not selling an end product, instead you're demonstrating how to live with integity no matter what challenges come up. That is something we all need to learn from each other because we can't do everything and explore everything ourselves. So we need to learn from each other. This is how we can improve the world. Where ever this adventure brings you, you demonstrate all the values worth fighting for. And fighting for them in a way that's sustainable. I remember when you made the video where you weren't able to go to college but I really think this is helping those that wouldn't have been able to be helped the way the systems are being run now. It's not about trashing the old, it's about growth. Everyone is in different places and you are helping to create a new path for others who feel called to grow. Thank you for sharing your journey! Wishing you and your family many blessings.

🎉🎉Hi Lauren and Rob, First of all massive amounts of congratulations and I want you to know Lauren that you have always been so sensitive regarding letting people know that this is YOUR Journey your experience and your choice to reach out and find something that could absolutely possibly cure yours schizophrenia. I just want you to know don't be hard on yourself that you've been insensitive I see you as owning everything and letting people know that you are still behind them emotionally and you want the best for them. ❤ if you still have a support Peter group for schizophrenia how would that feel to you to have to talk about it all the time I was wondering are you going to keep that peer group are you going to let it go the reason I'm asking is because I don't know that I would want to keep going and hear awful awful stories when you know that you have a positive experience that needs to be celebrated. Great video. So much vitality and love.

@@elizabethvargas9602 these associations are wild. Cause=/ correlation. there hasn’t been an increase in cases in populations that eat more sugar, and there has been stable documentation of cases through history where sugar was negligible in peoples diets.

I am rooting for you and I am very excited you found a new way to manage your symptoms. I also want to validate that you are not a failure if at any time you feel the need to go back on medication. I think that is what I worry the most about is if at some point your symptoms become too hard to manage again that you will be hard on yourself.

I'm soooo happy for you!!! I began watching your videos about 3 years ago, and have been an inspiration to me. You have shown us the best, the worst, the most honest person with this illness. You need not apologize for being you What works for one person may not work for someone else. You have a toolkit for when and if things change. Not being actively involved in my treatment cost me dearly. You have NEVER said that being on meds means a person can't be better without it. This is simply a chance to see the possibility of a med-free life, even if not completely symptom-free. Maybe that could happen, or not. But, you won't know until you try. Best wishes to you and yours!!!!!
